Not necessarily true... If you use a filter screwed right onto the block in an S-truck then it clears the crossmember just fine and doesn't interfere wht the starter.

I know on my Jimmy I DEFINITELY could not do that. I would have had to use a remote mount, if I couldn't use the stock adapter. 4x4 might be different, it's been a while since I looked at one of those.

You COULD use the tranny from a manual trans Gen II V6 J-body, but the better option is most likely the Getrag F23 from 00-02 2.2 OHV Cavaliers and Sunfires. (That's right, the 2.2 4-banger trans will bolt right to the 3400, as will the flywheel and clutch).'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11
