Even the street/strip cam runs great on the stock tune. OBD2 with its MAF really takes care of the fueling quite well, and the stock spark table is pretty damn good as well. OBD1 owners can't appreciate this fact I guess The VE tune for the torque cam is crazy compared to stock but without seeing it, I don't know that it would be noticed. OBD1 would need a tune for sure:P But OBD2 is fine. Tuning for the cam is possible...but not even close to necessary. Its the transmission and other small details like fans and TCC that make the big difference in tuning.

As far as I know engines are tuned from the factory to run just a tad rich and under powered to help with MPG and emissions. A stock tune is based on certain a certain specification range based on certain parts.
Example: Engine is running a tune to accommodate lifters with a length anywhere from (+-0.0xx). More accurately measuring your engines camshaft, push rod length, hydraulic lifter timing (within a range ofcourse, because its not a solid lifter), fuel map, ignition timing, fuel, etc... will allow you to put a more aggressive/powerful tune in if you know your engine can handle it.
So what about my camshaft? Can anybody help?
