I recently replaced a 3900 engine on an '06 Impala that was seized up. I thought I remembered reading about a 3400/3900 hybrid (3900 heads, intake, plenum [maybe exhaust manifolds?] on a 3400 block, IIRC). How's my memory doing? Will the parts bolt up to my '01 3400 Impala? Any *major* interference with the different front covers/power steering pumps, etc? Looks like it might take some "convincing" it to fit, I'm not afraid of a little grinding/welding/beating the hell out of it with a hammer if need be.
I know I'll have to deal with the drive-by-wire and the return-less fuel system on the '06... and probably brackets, mounts, sensors, wiring, etc.; those won't be a problem. I'm just worried about whether or not the parts will bolt together using all (or at least most) of the bolt holes with no (or very little) gap between the parts.
I have HP Tuners, so I can actually take advantage of what sure appear to be better flowing parts. What kind of power gain might I get by doing this swap? It's not going in a racecar by any means, but I figure I've got the parts for free... what's a gasket set and a weekend, right? And yeah, I'm totally kidding about the weekend, I've got another car to drive
Thanks,
Jason
