camshafts for 3100/3400

Hey everybody I know this is probably a dumb question but I'm guna ask it anyway, is there any way possible to change out the cam in my 3100 with the motor still in the car? I looked at it tonight and couldn't really see ne way besides maybe taking the tranny loose from the block but maybe somebody could point me in the right direction.

I just changed the cam in my 02 3100, took a plasma cutter, put a hole in the inter fender, I made plates up and welded them in, I'm going to watch it, if there is any sign of weakness i'll reforce it some more, 02 Malibu is only worth a couple thousand if I'm lucky.

I have heard of people dropping the subframe on the passenger side to allow for the can to come out through the wheel well.
