  • High Compression 3400/3500 NA build

My engine now has 194,xxx miles and I believe the timing chain broke but whatever, this build is on. I usually garage the car here when its gets cold and theres snow on the ground (SLC, Utah). Just gonna pull the motor and throw the car cover on that beech for the time being...
    Should be fun..

Plan is 3.4L DOHC flat-top pistons 0.020" over.
Some crazy cam that Will make it happen.
Other mods will be announced as they happen
Transmission work is still a few months out.
Have a machine shop lined up to get the work done on the short block.
Ben is going to assist me with deciding on cam specs to make this thing come alive.

    What Ive ordered so far:
    -Crank scraper
    -ARP Rod bolts
    -Clevite Rod Bearings
    -Cam Bearings
    -94-99 Timing Chain
    -Guide for Chain

Pics will be up of the old motor coming out. Gotta find out everything that needs to be disconnected to get the motor our. Everyone loves pics damnit!

This build is going to happen over the next 4 months, be patient.

No, they will have valve relief cutouts in them. The camaro is an iron head, and you can use those pistons with .030 thick head gaskets for high compression too.

3.4 DOHC pistons (91-95) with 3500 heads will give you 14.4, if you use cometic gaskets that are made for the bore, and .040" thick.

3.4 Camaro pistons with 3500 heads will give you 12.8:1, if you use cometic gaskets that are made for the bore and .030" thick.

Both of these situations are with .040" quench.

Progress today. No problems, ready to go! We pulled the whole harness just cause thought it would be easier.
Cut the exhaust right at the flex.
Went really smooth, took about 3 hours.

        Got everything disconnected

Little friendly help from a good friend.

And the help of my grandpas tractor

        Ready for teardown

Got a referral to a trans guy

              93-95 Pistons (11.5:1 with 0.040" gaskets)

              S&S Headers

And im going to put PAC springs on the heads to run a bigger cam. For max lopeage

Few snaps n shiz of the timing chain when I took the timing cover off.

Got this from Ben the other day. With 1.6 rockers the gross lift is going to be 0.576"

Edit: And I have a set of coated S&S headers on the way also..
Transmission is going out to be rebuilt in the next week or so.

Hmm... looks pretty ouchy. I'm kinda surprised one of the valves hit the piston.

Speaking of valves, can you tell me the valve dimensions (overall diameter and total length)?

Heads are done with the PAC springs.
                      Block is bored
ARP studs are on the rods and the rods were reconditioned
Crank was turned, all the surfaces are baby ass smooth

Got the fly cuts done, did this about 3 weeks ago. went 0.060" into the pistons. I cleaned them up after pics with a sandpaper wheel. nice n smooth.

I would polish/debur the tops of those pistons.
