  • how much better?

i know the 3500 is better than the 3400 sfi, but would it be worth converting a 3400 sfi to rwd, or is the 3500 significantly better, making the sfi swap pointless?

SFI is a function of the computer, not the engine.

A 3400 is generally a bit cheaper and has less power stock. It also needs less work to swap.

The 3500 has some advantages over the 3400 but it really depends on your power goals and what you want to do with it.

If you are swapping it to RWD it's about the same amount of work for both, the only additional thing is the 3500 needs an external 7x crank trigger. Right now those are pretty hard to come by.

What quantification do you want "better" in? Lbs? 3500 is heavier. hp. 3500 has 201 vs 175 for 3400 from GM. 3500 is Drive by wire vs cable throttle 3400. aftermarket, 3400 block has a lot more. 3500 has piston oil squirters on 5/6 cylinders.

                    Whats most important to you?

i know either one will do what i want--make a thirdgen drift--but i need to know which one is cheaper/easier to make that kind of power.

If you start with a 3500, you're already ahead of a 3400 for power. You can use the same cams as a 3400 for an easy power bump.

how hard is it to adapt an ls1 throttle body, and how much would it cost? i was thinking i could just use the plenum and tb that comes from the 3400, though im not sure how much of a bottleneck it will be.

Most people just adapt an LX5 throttle body which is 65mm - the same size opening as on the 3500 plenum.
