Wish I had a flowbench, no other job, and ambition to do those comparative tests you are talking about.

i wanted to use the 3400 plenum so i didnt have to spend money that i dont have on some throttle body and supplies to hook it up.... 3400 intake+tb is farrrrrrr cheaper and easier to set up.

edit:also i need tools to make an adapter

if its farrrrrr cheaper to use a 56mm tb over a 65mm tb, then there is no point in talking about 3400 vs 3500. Cheapest option is stock 3400.

i was going to get a 3500, but pay an extra few bucks to get the intake from a 3400, hell the dude would probably tell me i can just take it.

why do you want a 3400 intake? the 3500 intake is a common performance swap on 3400's. seems backasswards to me.

Just wondering. I want to get the nomenclature right, so when I start another build, I can at least know what I am asking! LOL

Thanks again Dave for your sage advice!

the 3500 LX9 is a gen 3 engine, just the last revision. the Gen 4 "high Value" 3500/3900 is where there was a redesign of the block and many other changes. Those are the LZ engines.

i want a 3400 intake because i dont have to make an adapter and spend loads of cash that i dont have on a tb... besides isnt the 3400 plenum just about as good as the 3500s? i know they are different, but i heard they are not that far off

Why are you worried about the cost of a TB vs. Cost of a TB + plenum?

while im at the junkyard, after purchasing the 3500, i was going to get a 3400 sfi plenum and tb. most likey dirt cheap or free... vs. saving up several paychecks to blow on a tb and creating an adapter to use it.....

Several paycheques? Most pull-it-yourself places seem to only charge about $30 for a throttle body. If you have a drill and a holesaw set you can make yourself an adapter plate for $5-10. I did.

                        agreed.

honestly, if you can't swing a junkyard TB, you might be better off going job hunting.

I guess I'm just confused about your entire project. You are wanting to build a Camaro for drifting and are talking about all of the mods needed for drifting, but then you are concerned about the cost of a TB and adapter. Sounds like you need to make yourself a plan and figure out a budget before you go much further along. It'll help in figuring out what questions you really need to be asking.

Ya a proper suspension setup will cost more than a motor swap. Steering angle would probably be the first thing to address IMO.
