  • 2.8 performance tweaks-how to get the most bang fo

I'm putting a 2.8 in a small roadster and am looking to boost power but not to a ridiculous level- how do I get there.

    Thanks

A COMP Cams K-Kit is the best value and starting point that I have found so far. Nothing for less than $400 will wake up the motor more. Another nice addition to the kit is their Magnum roller tip 1.6:1 rockers. They are less than $150. You could even add these to a stock valvetrain for a cheap boots in power. So now your sitting at about $600 for the upgrade parts, lube, filters, and gaskets. Are you looking to spend more? There are things like gasket matching the heads and intake. Smoothing the head and block casting for oil drain back. Oh and if you ever have the oil pan off the first thing you need to do is change to the iron pump and 3/4" pickup from a 3.1L or 3.4L.
    1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
    1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper

Possibly if you use the COMP 260 K kit and do all the gasket matching. But I am only guessing. You would be much further ahead if you used a 3.1L or 3.4L. It looks and fits the same as a 2.8L but the displacement increase makes a big difference.

          Agree'd... Toss the 2.8 and get a Camaro/Firebird 3.4 and you're only 20HP short of your 180HP goal...
