  • Best Opitions for '90 corsica

First off, I am truly sorry for not using the search button but I'm in a rush since I'm at work so I'll try and keep this short.

Got a '90 with the 3.1 and I'm looking to swap it out or beef it up but I'm not sure which the best method is for HP gain etc.

If anyone has any advice, links, and rough cost price in what would be my best opition I thank you in advance.

3400 swap would come in around $2000 best bang for the buck. It will feel like a whole different car.

        Drive it off a cliff.

        3400 swap would work.

i would say keep it and put a 3400 in there. it will run mid to low 15s with a stock 3400. the best part would be you have a CORSICA, noone will see it coming. i wouldn't mind having a corsica but i would put a 5spd in a cosica with a 3400 and build it up. that would rock. i would say if you did everything your self to do the 3400 swap it should not cost more than 1000 dollars including the engine and anything else you might need. i padi 700 dollars for my engine with 24,XXX miles on it out of a 03 impala.
the only problem you will have it the front engine mount will not line up. you will have to custom fab this up.

          Good luck

            not worth the swap.

But if you rather keep it and do a swap it is less expensive then to go and get a car with a 3400 in it.

a sleeper Corsica would be badass IMO. there is actually a rare '88 Corsica XT 2.8/5-speed in the local salvage yard that i could probably score for $200 complete with good title....hmmmmm.

anyways, i think the best bang for the buck would be to install a TGP Turbo 3.1 engine. i would even go so far as to swap in a Getrag 282 along with it. if not a whole TGP engine you could probably just add all of the TGP specific parts to your current 3.1 engine depending on its shape. i used to own an '88 Corsica with a 2.8/5-speed, so swapping in a 5-speed and turbocharging the existing engine shouldn't be too difficult.

i have been looking for a corsica with the 5spd i know they only made it that year. but if its in a salvage yard, you need to do too much to get it street legal. i was thinking about getting a 94 or 95 corsica and putting a 5spd witha 3400 in it just to have something with 4 doors. 94 or 95 that way i won't have to go through with OBD2 emissions. and if i get a 99 or earlier manifold the EGR will bolt right up. the 3400 will bolt straight in and no problems.

also i think the turbo setup your talking about would be just as easy on the 3400. i don't know for sure, but you could set it up the same way. you will still need the ECU and it should work with a 3400.

Move to the 3.4 DOHC. It has great potential and dosen't seem to be too bad to swap. My '90 Cutlass used the 3.1 and our cars share lots of parts.

                  My two cents,

i don't think you could use any TGP parts on the 3x00 engines. the rear exhaust manifold (the important one) would bolt up, but the ports wouldn't match up. you'd also need a custom crossover. actually, you couldn't use a TGP crossover in a '90 Corsica anyway because the transmission mount is in the way (i didn't even think about that earlier). a custom crossover would be a must, in which case you probably couldn't use the TGP downpipe, charge pipes, or much else for that matter. crap. heck, come to think of it, the only TGP parts you could use on a 3.1 '90 Corsica would probably only be the rear exhaust manifold, intake plenum and injectors. since a custom crossover would be needed anyway, i'd build one with a T3 flange and forget about using the TGP T-25 turbo also.

i like the idea of the 3400, and i would think that a 3400 swap should cost alot less than $2000. that would be a great engine for a custom turbo setup. you could still use a 5-speed, and probably run the 3400 on earlier batch fire OBD-1 ECM/memcal engine management and use a custom EPROM with modified TGP/5-speed code. it would be alot of work but would make one helluva sleeper.

oh yeah i forgot about the side engine/trans mount. i know the crossover would have to be modified. now that i think of it you might as well get front and rear manifolds bigger and modify everything. i would like to turbo my car but i know hardly anything about trubo setups. im learning alittle but im still in the stone age when it comes to turbos. Sabb driving moms knows more than me.

yeah the 3400 works and passes emissions with my stock ECU and stock injectors. its just that front mount that your need custom made
