  • 60V6 Exhaust/Under-Load Sound Files and Videos

    Hello All,

Is there a thread with 60V6 owners posting their exhaust and driving sound files/videos? If so perhaps this could be the start of one?

Appreciated would be Vehicle type (as my application is a swap), internal and induction modifications, and detailed exhaust specs if a swap.

I've collated as many as I can find, both here and on Youtube/Streetfire/etc., but it'd be convenient to have many in one spot. It's trite, but sound quality is very important for my project.

So, if anyone could point me to the thread, or if you guys would be willing to share, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

A bunch of irrelevant info, but:

As for me, we'll be putting an LX9 into a 71 Volvo 1800E; this is not a racing car/numbers chaser, rather a rest-mod that we're attempting to make look completely vintage, but with more modern mechanicals and capabilities.

We're still at the chassis/back-halving stage, but I've just inquired with WOT Tech about a higher compression, ported-induction engine w/ an appropriate camshaft.

Power is somewhat irrelevant, but throttle response, power band, and yes sound is crucially important. Looking for "dry, mechanical, 'thrumming' bark" rather than "bassy" or V8 like, for that vintage mid-more sound. Think the following:

    Dino-2.4 OHC V6

    Alfa Montreal 2.6 OHC v8

    TR6 2.5l OHV I6 boat anchor

    Alfa 105

    Amazing Columbo V12

Note I realize these are all different configurations, and all Weber'd or SU-carbed; it's the fact they're all kind of mechanical and dry, without that boominess we hear in more modern exhaust. Don't get me wrong, I love an LS, the Tubi on my 997, a Fiat 500 Abarth, and the 3400 with flowmaster and cam soundfiles I've come across, just none of them are what I'm looking for with my project. Hoping all your sound files can help with my decision.

    Long-windedness off.

This Fiero sounds pretty great; sounds like a cold-idle startup, so would be curious what it sounds like normally.

With that short exhaust, am unsure if the sound would be representative for me (Volvo's a typical Front-engine/RWD setup, 95 in wheelbase, about 172 in overall.)

Thanks, sounds great. Now, I thought it was carbed for a moment; what's your induction, and did you switch camshafts or is that the more "lumpy" exhaust of the 3400 vs 3500?

Do you have detailed exhaust details? I don't know that catbacks for various cars, looking for "1 5/8" primary long tube headers, crossover, brand X mufflers near tailpipes" type description.

          Thanks for the link.

There is always the 180 degree headers that made this Fiero 2.8 sound really nice.

Thank You! Hadn't seen this clip; I know I don't have room for crossover headers, but inspiring nonetheless.

SuperDave, yes, your car is one of my inspirations. My cam won't be nearly as wild...

Is there a dedicated soundclip thread I've missed? If not, please share.

mine's not as aggressive as Dave's but here are a few of my recordings.

                  Open headers

                  Strait pipe to Edelbrock Muffler.

And Can't forget the first running vids from back in 08 when I built this cam/motor combo for the first time.

More of what it sounds like now with the cat pipe in there, Cold idle so higher than normal

I really need to get a newer vid... Maybe I'll take one with my new DSLR camera.

There are some videos on YouTube of an MGB with a 3900 V6. That may be what you're after.

I'll have to take some new vids of my car with the new cam. Although I'm not really liking my old mufflers with this new cam.

You'll have to excuse the quality. Took the video on my iPhone. The mufflers sound like poo in the video. Sound much better in person. Still need to fix the exhaust.

                              Cold idle @ ~1000rpm.
