Yes, I have had my heads milled .040 to increase the compression, changed to a cam with more lift and duration, installed roller rockers and built a shallow oil pan. I'm very fortunate in that I have a good friend that is a machinist and I just sent him the manifold, a TBI gasket for the 4.3 and he did it for me. I'm pretty sure it could be done on a drill press providing you are able to clamp it solid and square. If you need a set of Fiero valve covers, let me know, I have 3 extra sets.

If you have all the injection gear, it would give you reliable starting and economical running to just leave it on there.
On a rod, you could always find yourself any old 4 bbl or even a supercharger top cover, epoxy some studs to the upper injection plenum and bolt the intake camouflage to that.....
