  • interchangability?

    hi again

so im just wondering what is needed to bolt a set of 3500 heads on a 3400 bottom end?

im looking to re-do my motor before i plan on turboing it...

i plan on using a stock bottom 3400 (pistons rods crank)

can someone make me a list so i can start my search for the right parts?

    thanks

3500 heads and 3500 lower intake, that's really all you need, but you can also decide to run the 3500 upper which will change a few of the other items such as a different MAP sensor, and possibly a different TB unless you get an adapter for it. You may need the rockers depending on if your 3400 originally had 10mm studs because the new ones are 8mm

if i put ls6 valve springs on the 3500 is it a direct swap? how much lift will it handle?

how do i know if i have 8 or 10 mm on a 3400 or are they are all 10? certain years have 8mm?

      thanks again

P.S i tested the lift on my springs and theyre good for 560-570lift

LS6 springs would need the LS1 spring seats and valve seals for the LS1 seats because of the center bore is smaller than the original springs, they are sold on the WOT-Tech store. Also the 10mm studs were up till 03 IIRC. Any 3400 with a 03 tagged lower intake should have 8mm rockers

          whatcha mean by tagged 03?

i have an 03 silhouette will it be 10mm or 8mm?
does compression change from head swap? will i need different pushrods?

          thanks for helping me dude

You will drop down to like 9.15:1 vs 9.5:1

and the intake by the corner will have an 03 molded into the casting.

See the 04 on the front and rear corners of this intake

This is what the 3500 will look like.

Push rods are the same if you didn't change the cam.

what differs the 2 heads is it just flow numbers(3400 vs 3500)? can either heads be milled?

                  is 300whp n/a possible?

300 to the wheels while N/A? i believe superdave did just that.

Dave only got to ~275whp and that was with a 5 speed cavi setup. I don't know if you can hit 300 with this setup without getting REALLY radical with compression, cam, and port work as well as probably fully custom intake setups.

00 would be 10mm studs, yes the heads can be milled but I'm not sure what the limit is... Also 3500 yes has better flow, but I think Ben ported a 3400 head to outflow a 3500 one... but I don't know what was done to that 3500 head that it was tested against... Might have been stock I just can't remember.

after reading up on Dave's build, yeah i was thinking crank(~320), not wheel.

I'm lost on why you would have to change your rockers out if you use the 3400 bottom end? you are talking rocker arms/studs right? If you're swapping heads and intakes anyways what does it matter? I'm trying to get up to speed on the 3500 stuff too lol. whats the deal with the 06/07 impala intakes? do they flow better than the other 3500 intakes?

If you're talking about the 3500 VVT intakes they won't bolt to the non-VVT engines.

the rockers bolt to the heads, if you have a 10mm head now, and are going to an 8mm head the rockers won't bolt down.
