  • 3.1 MPFI rebuild

If I took a 190,000 mile old 3.1 MPFI, used a Crane 260 (?) cam...I'll take recommendations here...and bored it .030 over, using appropriate 3100 SFI pistons, and DID NOT make any modifications to the computer (would this work?), what kind of power could I expect to make? I might open up the airbox, remove the cat, and open up the exhaust a little. Not sure what exactly I'll do yet, as I have another project in the works that has to be done first.

    Thanks.

probably no more than 160hp. You get the increased compression, and a more aggresive cam, but you still have the restrictive 3.1 intake.
      I modify stuff

OK. When you say intake are you taking about between the airbox and the throttle body, or upper and lower intake manifolds?

So basically, I'd want to swap in 3100 heads and up, correct? I ask, because in a short time, I anticipate having a 3100 sitting around...could I use that engine's heads, upper and lower intakes, then? It's in my '97 CS.

you would be much better off using the heads and intake from a 2000+ 3100 or a 3400

Hmm. That's sucky...this engine's parts will be free...that's why I'd like to use 'em. It is starting to break up already internally. Had a good bottom end rattle develop tonight. Went away after a couple minutes, and hasn't come back, but that bottom end can't be ready for many more miles.

however i would go with new style 3100 or 3400 intakes i swapped P&P new style intakes on and it made a huge difference even with my ailing tranny
