  • S&S 3400 header pinhole from the factory.

Has anyone else seen this before? I was trying to figure out why my 95 GP won't idle when warmed up.

Sorry for the cellphone pic. The hole is on the o2 bung weld.

I take it this is something that I have to remove the rear header to repair?

I hope that they haven't been coated, if they are, there's not much that can be done other than JB weld or RTM.

That is ceramic coated. What is RTM?

I've heard that it's damn near impossible to weld up stuff like this after the coatings have been applied. good luck.

As it is just a pinhole, I would take a dremel and wire wheel the coating in that area. Then get a mig welder and tack a small bead on it to seal it up, which should be able to be done with the headers still in the car. Lastly get a can of VHT spray paint and a small paintbrush, spray the VHT on cardboard and dab on the VHT with the brush.

BTW: Isn't that the EGR port?

They must have been made on a Friday

That sounds like the best way to do it. JB weld probably won't hold up to the heat.

I would go with what Phil said too.

As for the RTM, that's like calling Packard Bell tech support (an old IT joke I heard).

Yep, just tack it with a MIG, clean it up well and put some high temp paint on it. I had a few small pinholes in mine and that took care of them.

I doubt patching that pinhole will fix the idle problem. Larry

Its right before the O2, which is going to throw off the readings. Makes sense to me that it fucks up in closed loop.

That's what I thought also but its 3 inches away from the O2 sensor. The cam will only idle in open loop.

I highly doubt this is the problem with the idle... Is it just me who sees the fact that that bung is plugged and there is no O2 sensor there...

What else is done to the car? Different cam? Raised idle to compensate? Checked IAC system? checked TB Plate closing properly? Tuned VE and MAF to correct for the cam?
