50k?! haha, yeah, you don't need to worry about that unless your don't clear the timing chain cover and wear your chain out. The chain will go long before those gears see enough wear to warrant replacing them.

Cryo treating?

The rotors on the 92 were cryo treated before I got it and as far as wear goes they look like they have zero wear in the ~50k miles I've put on the car since I've had it.

If you want the DRTC to last forever, get it cryo treated. If you want it to possibly last forever, don't worry about doing anything :P.Last edited by Z26-T; 10-23-2012, 05:58 PM.You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

Since I now have a full keyboard at my disposal I'll post the rest about cryo treating....
The idea of cryo treating does two things.
Mainly it reduces internal stresses in parts and it changes the crystalline structure.
The reason it reduces residual stresses in parts is that parts contract in much the same (but opposite) way they expand. So areas that expand and cause stress will contract and cause stress.
The contraction process can cause metals to move and thus relieve stress... this is especially true as the outside and inside of parts remain at a different temperature based on the cooling rate of the process (controlled cooling). Or remain quite different when the natural speed of cooling is used as would be the case of dunking a part in liquid nitrogen.
Often times a true cryo process will include several cold-warm-cold cycles and sometime even an elevated temperature process.
This is very similar to thermal cycling a new block casting to let it relax its internal stresses and thus take a permanent 'shape' that it will stay at even when used in a high performance engine where thermal gradients are extreme.
The second process could (depending on the metal) change the grain structure.
As the metals contract their grain structure gets more tightly packed and in some cases is permanently changed.
This leaves parts less prone to fatigue and without internal stresses to later cause part shape changes.
One other area that could happen is infusion of nitrogen into the surface of the part. Though I'm not as convinced this happens... an expert on the subject may say otherwise.
Feel free to correct my errors.....

also, I was under the impression that it was because he wasn't running a dual mass flywheel like the G6 uses."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. who do you guys recommend I send parts for treatment to?"I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. I have broken with society for reasons which I alone am able to appreciate. I am therefore not subject to it's stupid laws, and I ask you to never allude to them in my presence again."

I used a local place in my area called NitroFreeze.... I guess look around and see who is available to do it. I believe that the superfinishing will also greatly add less wear to the whole deal but I just can't find anyone who would perform that service on a timing chain setup, most places you see for that are in the printing press market.
