  • Cam swap questions

Is there a cam swap write-up anywhere for a 3x00? Alldata doesn't seem to have much useful information/pictures but I've seen a good write-up for an LT1.

Basically, I know the timing cover, timing set, rocker arms, pushrods come out, then slide cam out carefully, keeping it as level as possible. Installation is the reverse. Anything else I should know?

you're supposed to be able to rotate the cam after removing the pushrods and the lifters stick up in the anti-rotation blocks. I wouldn't trust that. If the engine is out of the car then drain the fluids and flip it upside down before you pull the cam. otherwise i'd pull the LIM and take the lifters out.

You could use 12 telescopic magnets too. Like the type you get at the little parts stores to keep them up. It may sound like a waste to buy 12 of them, but if you save buying a LIM gasket set you still may come out on top.

The LIM gasket set will run you about $60-100 depending on which brand you get and where you purchase it.

You could get some small science project magnets and use one per pair of lifters if they were big enough.

Haha it's all good I've already got a new LIM gasket set to go in.

So I take it lifters should just lift out after pushrods are removed?

Yes. Sometimes they like to stick after the first half inch or so, but otherwise the just pull right out the top.

lol... Magnets would be next to impossible on a gen 3.
