Hello dont really post very much but decided to let you all in on what im doing. I am going to college for auto tech and am enrolled in a engine rebuilding class this semester. I am taking the motor out tonite and am researching doing the 3500 top swap. my motor has about 160k on it at the moment. i have a tce 65 mm TB to put on it. The mods already done to the motor are egr delet 36ib injectors ported and polished intakes headers and a CAI. i plan on buying the stage 2 3500 heads from wot tech and ported 3500 lower intake. Switching to all arp bolts and studs. and thinking about upgrading to forged pistons and rods. I am having trouble finding the pistons at the moment though. Also trying to decide what cam i should get for it i would evetually like to do a turbo set up but dont have the money to make this into a turbo build at the moment. hoping to rebuild the motor the suspinsion the after that save for the turbo build. I just wanted to post somthing to see if anyone has any advice i will be using the search button alot and already have started just looking for a little input from people that have already done this. thanks in advance to everyone I love this site so much good info and people. also sorry in advance for my horrible spelling and punctuation.

The 3400 bottom end has a lot of options for compression without going forged. We can get you forged pistons, but I do not really promote going that route unless you really want to use bigger injectors than 36#. Make enough power to warrant 60# injectors and a forged bottom end makes sense. I would spend the money on a good tuning setup and turbo setup. Maybe transmission as well, since those are a weak spot for most 3400 applications.Ben

My 3400/3500 hybrid has been finished for almost a year now.Still runs flawless and has great power for having a mild camshaft.I have everything from Wot-Tech Heads,Cam,Intakes.
Ben does great work for a great price in my book..My best 1/4 was 14.169@98.92 But the last time at the strip it was trapping @ 100mph.So im sure 13's are possible.I can race my car and still drive it home, and to work=)

I would like to spend the money on a nice turbo set up but i have to dissasemble and rebuild a motor for my class so i was thinking of goin all out. The after it is back in a driving for a while save for the turbo and transmission. What other kind of options are the other than the forged for my 3400 that would work with a boost and without. thanks alot for the response.

You can do a forged build and run NA until you go boost. Just don't do yourself a disservice and run 8:1 compression thinking you are going to run 30psi. An engine like that would be a dog when not in boost (let alone NA until you got your turbo) and most people run no where near 30psi.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

If you can afford it, go forged pistons and rods. Better safe than sorry, especially when you start talking about boost. Ben (Sappyse107) would be the one to answer the cam question.

Excellent choice! You will be happy as the next best power adder after boost/nos is a great port job with performance cam.
Consider learning to tune and get the HPTuner package from Ben as well to really make those additions shine.1996 Grand Prix | 3100v6 L82 | T04E-50 Turbo | Getrag 282 w/ EP LSD | SPEC-3 Clutch

And if you ever have an issue (eventually all cars do) you can log to see what is going on and REALLY helps diagnose problems. Which otherwise may have cost you more by tossing parts at it.1996 Grand Prix | 3100v6 L82 | T04E-50 Turbo | Getrag 282 w/ EP LSD | SPEC-3 Clutch
