  • power steering pump?

I'm adding power steering to my fiero, but with the UIM reversed for my turbo build, I can't use the stock mounts.

    I cam up with this:

it catches on bolts on the right side of the block. do you guys think I need it to bridge all the way across and catch a support on the other side too? If I can get away with only having the one sided mount, I would prefer that, as it would be easier to install later when I get the rack installed.

it would also make belt installs much easier!

I've decided I only need the one side, I'll post pics in my build thread!

Did you think about looking into the electric assist on the Malibus? I've thought about them before in case I ever ditched my power steering pump.

it's been talked about on the fiero forums many times, but I've yet to see a successful install. I don't really trust them either, kinda like DBW throttle bodies...

            I'll agree about the DBW.

I also don't think there is a controller available either.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a controller involved.

you need to support it on both sides, i know from experience.

Is that the turbo sunbird pump or just a stock one with the reservoir removed?

I picked up the turbo sunbird version for mine and planned on using the reservoir from an Astro van and a 3900 pulley. Bracket is all made but i went to manual steering instead.

AFAIK they are the same pump, you can just remove the res and press/thread a fitting.

                      Yep, same pump.

There are some that use a smaller shaft diameter, i went through a couple of those before i got one that would work.

I hope not, because I'm past the point of no return now! the pump is off a 1995 trans am, but I won't be using it, I'll be using a 3400 pump, with the trans am pulley. the pump is mounted backwards, but the pulley is reverse rotation. the reverse rotation pulley counteracts the revered pump for correct rotation! I'll post pics of the mount shortly.
