  • Chamfered Main Bearings

Does anyone have any feedback on a good brand of main bearings to buy?

Also anyone know if they make main bearings with chamfers for filleted crank journals (rather than the rolled fillet that stock ones have).

So far my search has not shown any different main bearings, however I'm wondering if Ecotec or Buick V6 bearings might fit, there are more options for these....

Anyone's bearings. So far I haven't found anything but P series. All that is available is stock replacements.

Oddly the crank I have has SBC rod widths. But it has fillets on it. So I need a fillet compatible main bearing or I have to cut my own chamfers in the mains bearing inserts.

Assuming you are talking about a 60 degree crank, are you sure they are necessary considering the thrust bearing centers the crank and I believe maybe a little wider than the others, unlike the rods which center themselves. I found out the hard way with the first offset ground 3900 crank which was filleted when I tried to use the sbc small journal rod bearings.

I believe that's what caused the machinist to grind it to the wrong stroke as the only way you can cut a 360 deg fillet in the rod throws is to grind it less than the 3.555 stroke I was aiming for. I didn't ask for that mod. I had to snap at the second machinist who was suggesting the same modification not realizing that fact.

I'm using sbc small journal clevite HN bearings now because that's what was recommended to deal with the higher compression ratio, they are narrowed for fillets although the crank I'm using does not have them.

I'm talking rod bearings not main bearings.

Since my crank throws are .950" wide I can use standard SBC bearings.

All the journals have a .125" fillet on them.

And a chamfered rod bearing is available for 60 degree.

I have an odd ball crank.

          Need performance main bearings.
