  • What do I need to use CC 1.52 rockers on my Gen II heads?

I am tearing my engine apart because of my blown head gasket and worn out valve guides, and while I'm at it, I'm putting in a cam (among some other things), and at the same time I figure I'll replace the whole valvetrain. I am ordering the cam, lifters, and pushrods on Monday and I already have the valvesprings, retainers, locks, valves, guides, etc... All that is left is the rocker arms, and I was going to not replace them because they are rocker arms after all so the stock ones should be fine, however it would be nice to go to roller tip and the small amount of extra lift won't hurt either.

However, I know that I can't put just the rocker arms on, so what do I need to make it work? I have read that I need Iron head adjustable rocker studs...if so how many of those will I need, and also I have been told that I will have to do some grinding as well, and is this the case, and if so, where do I need to do the grinding?

    Thank You,

    Shawn

yeah, all you need is the Gen I rocker studs, 12 of them. You shouldnt need to do any grinding for 1.52s

Thank you, I guess I will be ordering a set of those soon.

With 1.6's what would need to be ground down? The guideplate or something?

Yeah, with 1.6s you need to grind down the "U" part of the fork on the guideplates, b/c the pushrod will rub the "U" part cause it to break off, throwing the rocker off the valve

The part number that I came up with for the studs is 476530. Is this the right part number? And I need to order 12 of these? It says the package contains 5 units, which doesn't make any sense to me. It also is only a little over $2, so I'm thinking I need 12 of them. Any ideas? Is that the right part number?

          Thanks,

Well, I didnt get mine from GM. I went to Advance Auto Parts and asked for rocker studs from a 1984 Chevy S-10 2.8L. So, I really dont know if that is the right p/n.

I didnt change anything with my comp cams roller tipped rockers. They are 1.52 though but I just bolted them in.

So you think the 1.52's will work fine without the different studs Ben? The other studs are just needed with the 1.6 ratio? This is getting confusing now, I don't know what to do. Why are the other studs needed with the 1.6 ratio? I think I'll just buy them and see if they work without the different studs...if not I'll invest in the studs. I'm kinda trying to replace everything I can with new, and preferably better, parts on a fairly tight budget (~$800)...so if I don't need the studs I'm not going to spend the money on them.

Just use the stock nuts with the new washers. Thats all I did and it worked perfect for me. I have no idea why the 1.6 would be different. btw, i had to cut part of the oil splash guard under the valve cover, as the rocker was hitting it.

Maybe thats why the adj studs are needed. I had 1.6s on with adj studs and never hit the inside of the valve cover

Adjustable would only matter if your pushrod lengths are wrong. Otherwise they will be in the same height as stockers.

you need the adjustable studs to bolt the rockers up. otherwise there isnt enough thread on the non adjustables to tighten them down enough to take up all the slack in the rocker.
