The biggest obstruction I noticed on my 3100 heads is where the valve seats are drilled out, just behind the seats, on the pocket floor. Not saying 3100 and 3500 heads are the same, but surely there is still the hard edge from carving out the valve seats seat?
My theory is removing as little as possible to achieve smooth transition along the pocket floor and blend the pocket with the valve seat.

I don't see anything worth going after without a flow bench and about 4 sets of heads to experiment with first. without removing the valves, the only thing I could see that might possibly net a slight gain would be to contour the valve guide a little bit. given time, I'm sure I could make great gains, but I think the port job I'm going to have done will be worth every penny of the $500 I'm paying for it. I would spend double that on just getting the heads and bench to test with, and then have to spend days trying to make something happen. I would like to see a before and after dyno on a 3500 with nothing changed but the heads and intakes to see what it's really worth, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. I'll back it up as well, 3500 heads are a different animal.
all the tips/tricks that come with a Summit porting kit of sanding rolls are pointless, lol.
Trust me, unless you've listened to that horrible howl of a Flowbench for hours upon hours.. making small changes one after another and seeing the same results you can't begin to appreciate what it takes. It's probably the same for the LSx guys. lol
