  • 3400 grand am build advice...

I had another thread going that sort of changed my mind on some things I had in mind for a build. Basically, I have a 2000 Grand am GT1 with the 3400 SFI V6. I want to do some upgrades, engine wise, as I have a bad head gasket, so while its torn down, I might as well. Last thread they said I would need bigger injectors for my original idea, which was ported heads, ported upper and lower intake and headers. My question is, what can I do on factory injectors? And no tune? If I have to tune, I could, trying to avoid it though. I have a guy that has HP tuners and can tune for me, but, I dont know when as he is VERY busy. Any advice would be appreciated! Im not looking for it to be fast...just want a little more power...if I could get above 200-240HP and streetable like it was in factory form, I would be happy.

Without a tune, I would keep it stock.

Back in the day you wouldn't mod your engine without messing with the carb or timing so as Ben says... No tune don't touch it, anything will be a waste of money.

Well, like I said, I can tune if need be. Sounds like from what ive seen on here they are kind of a pain to tune...

I know for sure, I really DONT want to get into a cam. As, I dont want to have to get that in depth in tearing it apart. But, Anything from heads up is fair game for suggestions. As far as injectors, I saw WOT-tech has some 28LB injectors....if those would just be a direct swap in for the stocks, and just need to be tuned for, that would be fine with me injector wise if I had to go to bigger injectors. Just want basically a complete bolt in sort of build.

Bigger injectors are useless unless you have the need for them. Your stock motor doesnt. Even ported and polished intakes has no need for bigger injectors.

If you want a "bolt-in-build" you 1st have the wrong platform, and 2nd, what "bolt-ons" there are for these motors, you wont notice a difference. Anything you do with these motors will require a tune.

I had ported and polised intakes with the street performance cam on a stock tune. It sucked. Unless your willing to spend money and tune it, aka, Do it right, then keep your motor stock.
