  • 3100 bulid thread

im working on a list so i can began to gather parts to build up my dd 3100
i have read up on it some but with having grand prix anything performance wise is all 3800 stuff
    my first question is-
can i put upper and lower intakes off a 3400 on a 3100 with a straight bolt up?

if your motor is 2000+ the intakes are the same minus the 1-4 on 3100 sfi. only upgrade is a port job or a 3500 top end heads to upper intake. whats your budget and can you be down the car for machine work? whats the goals? and can you or someone tune it with a tuner....

i have to drive it everyday, im going to have it tuned at a speed shop,
for right now id like to keep it cheap
i saw the ported/polished intakes for sale so id figured id jump on them,
i am swaping the tb from the stock 3100 to the 3400 since its alittle bigger
the cars already got a 3in hai, u-bend delete and a high flow cat,
but other then that its all stock with 115k miles

get some cheap headers, upper and lower intake, and a 62mm TB and call it a day. You can change your final drive ratio very easly if you can get to a u-pick type wrecker. just gotta find a GTP with a 3800 s/c motor and a stock trans, grab the diff, diff cover, drive shaft and cv and you go from a 2.90:1 to a 3.29:1, you will loose some fuel economy on the high way but pick up on everything else. that is a cheap and very easy mod to do.

headers, intakes, and a bigger tb was my main plan, didnt think about the messing with the trans other then maybe a shift kit but ill look in it
i dont need a tune with a tb and intake do i?
not as big as a 62mm tho, cant aford that right now but the stock 3400 tb i can get for 20 bucks and its 4mm bigger then the 3100 stock so i think i just go with that then intakes

there is no "messing" with the transmission to do this, it is strickly bolt on, aside getting the speedo' calibrated, but it will give you alot more grunt and bottom end power for 30$ worth of used parts, your not going to make that kind of power doing anything else for neerly that cheap. tools you will need are just a 34mm socket and a good breaker bar, a hammer, and 19mm and 15mm sockets and wrench's, maise well do a trans service while your at it. i've seen a crafty way of doing it involving taking off both trans cooler lines to actually "flush" the trans.
You can do all the upgrades slowly and THEN get it tuned, getting it tuned after all is done is only to get the full potential of all the added components, the car will function and perform safely with out a tune.

What year 3100? And as far as intake, are you talking upper plenum, or upper plenum and lower manifold?
