  • getting mad :0!!

ok heres the deal guys.. i wanted to swap the the 3100 pistons in my 92 3.1L for higher compression.. so i call up advanced auto and asked for a price for the 3100 pistons in a 94 corsica with a 3100. now starting in 94 should be the 3100 right? anyway he looks them up and heres the specs

    (2) 1.500mm and (1) 4.00mm ring grooves
1.442" compression distance recessed head .265" deep

now i told him to look up the 92 to see the diff in specs and they r the same? except on the 92 it says .265" deepx3.000

so i m really getting annoyed, and dont want to bother u guys. but! if they r the same how m i getting higher compression?

or if i go to the more expensive they have ones that say 1.480" compression distance recessed head .260" deep x 2.856" dia

    wut should i do?

The more expensive ones are the ones you are looking for. I know there were some '94 cars that still had the 3.1, while others got the 3100. I'm not sure if the Corsica is one of them. The Sealed Power website lists both pistons for the '94 Corsica.

    The Gen2 3.1 piston is a Sealed Power H561P:
Std-.50-.75-1.00-1.50MM; VIN Code "T"; Exc. Camaro & Firebird; Use w/E605K or E605X ring set; 2-1.50mm, 1-4.00mm Ring Grooves; 1.442 CD; .9055 Pin Dia. Recessed head .265" deep x 3.000" dia.. DurOshield« skirt coated piston.; They are $15.48 each at Advance.

The 3100 piston is a Sealed Power H692CP:
Std-.50-.75-1.00-1.50MM; VIN Code "M"; 2-1.50mm, 1-4.00mm Ring Grooves; 1.480 CD; .9055 Pin Dia. Recessed head .260" deep x 2.865" dia.. DurOshield« skirt coated piston.; Ouch! $42.99 each at Advance. You should be able to find them cheaper somewhere else. They are listed for $29.79 at www.rockauto.com

The 3100 pistons will only take you up to about ~9.5:1, but you can get over 11:1 by using the Camaro 3.1 pistons. They are H562CP.

the difference is the fact that the Pistons sit ABOVE the block deck surface by about .020 inch. where as the old 3.1L pistons are .007something in the block.

i have the part number for the TRW pistons (federal mogul ones) at home. when i get home from work i'll post it.
