  • ?? harness and control box compatibility ??

I have a 3.4 engine complete with all of the sensors as it was cut out of a 94 Firebird. Does anyone know what other cars and years would contain a compatible harness and box? Also, is there a difference between those parts for a manual transmission car and one with an automatic?

    Thanks, Jack

The harness and PCM will need to come from a 94-95 Camaro or Firebird. There are differences between transmissions in both the harness and the PCM.

Hi TechRod ! Thanks for the prompt reply.

I see the quote in your avatar is from Jon McCullough of BMCauto. I sort of know Brian there at BMCA. Are you his brother?

I am doing a V6 and T5 conversion to an MGB and have a very good 3.4 engine from an automatic 94 Firebird with all of the stuff still hanging on it. The wiring was cut up as the motor was removed and I don't have a computer for it.

Are you saying that in order to make this thing run right I should have a harness and computer for a manual transmission out of a matching 94 F body car?

I know that Brian offers a nifty compact harness made especially for this swap, but I can't stand the tariff so I guess that I will have to use a stock one and bundle up the extra footage.

Any other suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I am completely new at these computer controlled things.

Nope, just a customer. But the quote struck me as quite fitting to my build.
Actually, you could run that engine off of any number of PCM's. The only reason you would have been stuck with the original PCM is if you were trying to use the auto trans like I am.
I would definitely suggest going to OBD1.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with service numbers, I'm not sure specifically which to suggest for your build.
What are you doing for fuel delivery? I ended up running a surge tank, takes up a little space but works well.

Thanks! I'll start bugging Brian. I just want to keep my posts to him to a minimum because I know that he is trying to make a living and I am certainly not his biggest customer.

          What are you building?

Twig.... Unless you have time to learn tuning for OBD-1, I would stick with the stock OBD-1.5 PCM and modify the stock 3.4L harness. PM me if you need a diagram that shows what to keep and terminal locations.
