  • Ported Upper & Lower Gen II Intakes, are they available?

Is there some place that ported intake manifolds can be purchased for the Gen II engines? I want to port my intake manifolds, but I will probably screw it up, and I figure if I can just buy some, or at least a lower one that is ported already it will help me out and save me a lot of time.

    Thanks,

    Shawn

I have a set here but they say 2.8 on top. I can port them out, as they are stock right now.

What kind of difference do you think this would make in a turbo engine, and how much approx. do you think it would cost? Also, would just getting the bottom one ported and using the stock top one (so I can keep the 3.1 turbo plenum) help much?

Also, do you still have that ported tb? What kind of difference do you think that would make?

      Thanks,

      Shawn

Norm had his upper and lower Extrude honed.

and in my personal opinion this is the only way to really go about doing those 2nd gen styles. no offence to ben, but both him and i are only capable of doing port work at where you can get at on the ports. which still leaves the mid sections untouched as you cannot get in and at them due to the severity of the turn radius and lenth of the upper plenums port runners.

unless ben is not letting me in on a secret.

however yes porting will help net gains. im not arguing against it. just saying an Extrude Hone procedure will result in a bit better flow.

        my .02cents.

I appreciate the tips on this. I have a blown rear head gasket, not to mention bad valve guides, and have to tear the engine apart anyways, so I figure I will put it back together a little more performance oriented. I'm trying for 13's by the end of the season, so anything I do while the engine is apart will just help, not to mention be cheaper and easier to do now, then tear it back apart later and put the stuff in.

Extrude hone is really the best way. Under pressure there really isn't much need to clean up the differences between the matig surfaces...at least not a major help. Your best bet is to port the heads, especially the exhaust side and combustion chamber.

Extrude hone costs a shit ton of cash though, I believe over 600 bucks!

I'm interested if the price is right. Let me know! Would be nice to be able to use my turbo plenum, but I think a 3.1 plenum could manage.
