  • oil filter re-location?

does anyone make a remote oil filter setup for a 3500? I'm running into clearance issues with my subframe and a/c comp.

    Edit:

Looks like this summit part should do it...

You may not need this. Does your filter screw directly into the block? If not you may just need to remove the factory angle adapter. That's the only way I've seen it on gen 3 Fiero swaps.

I haven't seen anyone do a swap w/ A/C yet. I removed the angle adapter, and the compressor clears the filter, but just barely and I'll be the one doing oil changes, so I'd rather the filter be accessible.

My LNJ swap has (will have...) working AC and it looks to have plenty of clearance with the oil filter just screwed into the block. Note the adapter to mount a 3100/3400 AC compressor.

any reason to run the 3100 a/c comp?

The A/C comp I have is larger, I probably have 1/8-3/16" clearance between the filter and the back of the comp.

My engine didn't come with one so I just picked up a new one to match the wiring harness and PCM I'm running (98 Monte Carlo). I was under the impression the newer AC Compressors were controlled differently by the PCM so I stuck with the safe route so I didn't have to worry about it.

The best one you are going to find is a Canton Racing remote filter kit. It is also a 90* adapter and can rotate 360* so hose routing is simple. I have used it on my S-10 and Trooper and it makes it so much easier to change the filter. I was also able to run a PF2 AC Delco filter which is a full 1qt filter.

my local speed shop has one, didn't mention the brand, but I'm sure it'll work.
