  • ignition and fuel upgrades for gen 1 motor

im looking at doing some ignition and fuel upgrades. i already have an msd replacment coil, but id like to upgrade with an msd ignition box. im looking at a 6a or 6al. they are supposed to plug right in with an aditional harness. i would also like to run a 2 step with it for drag racing. has anyone tried this??? i have seen fieros with 6al boxes, and i was wondering if it is as simple as pluging it in with the harness, or if it is complecated, and does it cause probelms with your stock ecm??? ive put msd boxes in before, but never on a car that was computer controlled.

my next question is fuel delivery. i would like to put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on. again, ive heard of fieros with them, but never seen them. what do you guys use??? ive heard holley makes one that works. are the gen 1 fuel rails the same as something else, like a camaro 305 or 350 tpi???

i have a 2.8l ironhead in an 86 z24 cavalier. im looking at building a 3.1l with ironheads, and am shooting for 200hp, but i want to get the ignition and fuel system sorted out (get what im gonna need) before i start building the motor.

Yes you can add an MSD Box (6A or 6AL) You will find the hookup exactally like any other car with a distributor and coil.

ok i did some looking for afpr'a and ive come up wioth a few. they all are for 85-92 5.0l and 5.7l tpi motors. i was looking at getting the holley, but my pats place wants $145 canadian for it. i have found others made by accel, tpis, crane cams, bbk, and jet performance. does anyone have any expiriance with any of them??? they range from $60-90 usd.
