1995 Camro Engine Swap; Compatable Engines?

Hey everyone! I am new to this web site, so i figured I'd start with a good post for my first one!
I am currently going to be swapping out the engine in my 1995 Base camaro, 3.4L V6. The engine that is now in it has a left head gasket leak, is from a 1994 camaro that the previous owner swapped out, and has 160 000 km's on it. It's running a bit hot, and I found rust in the rad fluid when I flushed it in june, and the rad fan stopped spinning after the flush (sensor issue, replaced relay, tested motor, continuity in wires etc..) so it's definitely time to swap out this old engine...
I was just wondering WHAT models would be compatable for this vehicle. It's an ironhead engine currently, rear wheel drive. I know the engine has to be non vvt (the ecu can't handle vvt) but what models would work? I was told an 04-05 malibu may work.. Grand Am's maybe? Not too sure about various engine mounting points or anything so was hoping for some insight.

The 04-05 Malibu will need some work to fit, as will a Grand Am because those are FWD engines. The oil pan, for one, is different between the iron head engines and the FWD gen3 engines, as starter placement, and I believe motor mounts. It is possible though, with work. Thank you much! Ya i figured there would be some extra work required if it threw in a FWD engine, will keep looking though for sure! Hopefully can find something good when I get back home, keeping all options open!

What about a 3500 top end onto his current block? I thought I heard about someone doing that before and getting some good gains.

If you want a direct swap where everything from the oil pan to intake manifold will work then you need to use a 1993 to 1995 3.4L from a Camaro. You could also rebuild the motor you have now. Another option is to use your block with a modern aluminum head top end or use a complete FWD motor which will gain you a roller cam. The last option will require modifying the oil pan, starter location, exhaust, coolant hoses and more stuff I cannot think if right now. Its all going to depend on time, budget and skill. But it is a careful balance. If you take something on that is above your budget then it often becomes a lawn ornament. Same goes for something above your skill level. It may get to the point where you need to pay to get the work done and that right there can easily blow the budget and time-line. So just be realistic. These 3 factors are more important than making big power numbers.
