  • Iron Head Gaskets

So what are my options for a good head gasket for a 3.4 with the iron head setup. I want to keep the stock thickness, but anyone have any experience with different brands of gaskets?? Right now I see the felpro line or the GM ones....

This is for the supercharged TBI 3.4 I am building, using the fageol blower. The heads are getting hogged out for max flow. Other tid bits of the build include, Holley 400 cfm TBI, Holley C950, cog pulley setup, meth injection, Mallory 6AL-2, MSD coil, and Edelbrock headers, and 1.6:1 roller rockers. I am also putting a spacer block between the blower manifold and the blower itself to helo lower operating temps of the system.

I can get Cometic in .040 thick. Got a set of .030 on the shelf but you are boosted so probably want to keep it stock. I couldn't tell you if there is any issues between felpro or GM on the iron head gaskets.

But isnt your line of parts for FWD motors? I thought the FWD motors had different water jackets in the block or something like that??? Or am I completely wrong .

The head gaskets are compatible. People have used the iron head gaskets on the fwd motors to increase compression (gen 2 only).

Plus people couldn't do hybrid top swaps if that were the case.

Fel Pro gaskets work great. Just use new bolts and torque them properly.

OK I have done my research (about 8 hours worth) and cant find any good solid info... on which would be better suited for a boosted motor, Cometic or Fel-pro??

The thing I like about the Cometics on Ben's WOT line of parts is that I could actually use a thicker gasket to drop compression... but 9:1 sounds OK for a well tuned supercharged TBI with meth injection.

BTW- when I buy my Z24... I have big plans for a forged, turbo 3400/3500 motor swap... and WOT is definately going to be my favourite shopping store.

I imagine MLS > Graphite style (GM and FelPro) for boosted applications.

I would agree. I would go with MLS if the cost is reasonable. But your not going to get mega boost out of that blower on a 3.4L so Fel-Pros will work well if the MLS gaskets are too much are too hard to get.
