3.4L Chevette / Citation X11 Timing??

Hey everyone,

I just finished the install of a 1994 3.4L in my son's 1985 Chevette. I did not use the Fuel Injection, I went with the 2bbl carb. I used the cam from a 1981 Citation X11 - 2.8 LH7 High Output Z-code Engine, but i have no idea where to set the timming. I googled "timing 1981 2.8L Citation X-11" with no luck. Most of the repair manuals tell you to refer to the lable under the hood, well I don't have a 81 X-11 hood to refer too.

So any ideas, I have it running and it runs pretty good but I'd still like to know where the timing should be set.

With the engine hot and at low idle, pull and plug the vacuum line to the distributor and adjust timing to 8* BTDC. If the idle changes re adjust it and re check the timing. If you can try and add a bit more but if it pings you need to back it off.
