people used to run aftermarket 60mm TB's on them, they are long out of production though. IIRC FDP made them...

i'm sure the 3400 TB would work with an adapter, you'd have to make one or find someone to. I have a bored one that i was planning on selling soon... it's 58 or 59mm IIRC.

          Hi there,

62mm is the biggest you can reasonably go on the Gen II FWD engines because the neck behind the intake can't be ported more than that.

FDP, my old company, was the retailer for the 62mm billet aluminum TBs, but they were made by Kimmo in Finland. He owns the rights to them, and I'm not sure if anyone else has started selling them.

The 3400 TB doesn't really work because the linkage is on the wrong side, and the cable pulls forwards on the 3x00 engines, where the old Gen II TBs pull backwards.

You may be able to adapt something else with an adapter plate, but you'll need to research linkage hook ups, clearances, IAC and TPS sensors.

Nice to see you are still hanging around, Franz!

In regards to the TB, you may still be able to go with a 3400 TB if you can swap the shaft between the 2. Although, now that I think about it, the Gen2 TB has that vacuum block section, which the Gen3's don't have. Either way, you'd have to have an adapter plate since the mounting holes are in opposite corners.

You might look into Ford TB's, as they used to be a popular upgrade alternative.

alright making an adapter plate is no big deal i do alot of fab work

bszopi: what Ford TBs would be the best? Im going to be doing a yard run basically across the northern part of MN and would like to know what to keep an eye out for.

superdave: is the one you are going to sell a 3400? what would you want for it?

Franz: bigger is better(its a boosted engine) I already have the upper intake ported and polished(except for the neck cause of the small TB) any chance any of those TBs are floating around somewhere?

              THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!

The one i have is from a 3400, you'd need to make something to mount the 3400's throttle cable bracket. the Jbody guys use throttle cables for 3100 Corsica/Berettas and also 2.2 cavaliers for the 3400 swaps, your TV cable should work but i don't know about the cruse control, that may need more work.

Post up a WTB on v6z24.com, you may have some luck on there for a bolt-on FDP one...

Sorry, nothing left here for those engines. I even sold my own, the original FDP Gen II, FWD 62mm TB, a few years ago.

I had alot of customers on the V6Z24 site, so you may have some luck there. I'll check with Kimmo and see if he's got any bare units left too, but I don't recall him mentioning them.

Do you have any pictures of the intake/TB set up on your car? The TBs were different between J, L and W body cars. Not sure what set up the A body uses.

Look for a 2000ish windstar with the split port 3.8L. It has the linkage on the same side as the 3.1 and you just enlarge two holes slightly to get it to bolt on to the 3.1 plenum! You will have to splice in the tps wires and figure out your linkage. The Ford TB dose not have a IAC on it so you will have get or make a remote one like I did. I had it about 80% done for my Lumina but I ended up swapping the engine out before I got it installed. If you can't find one in the yard PM me I will sell mine.

                        IAC adapter -> http://60degreev6.com/forum/gallery/...mages.php?c=17

I have a CAD file around here somewhere with all the dimensions for that unit, as I worked with RacerX11 to develop it.

The A-body uses the same set up as a J body I have pics up in the "boost" forum or on my garage page.
