    that is simply amazing.
Yes it is. I really was amazed that someone was junking that car out. The interior is good and the car has about 70,000 miles.

I turbo'd it too. I wanted to see how cheaply I could do it. I have $600 in the turbo system counting everything but the time. (not counting timing chain-related engine repairs). I used the original ECM, just a tune and injectors from an L67 (supercharged 3..

First Kill with XC 2.8 Turbo!!!

Thank you! Video is coming, as soon as the tune is done. It's getting close, too! In fact, I had my first kill with it today!

Today I drove the XC to town to get some items and do some tuning. The tune is working well, just cleaning up some little glitches here and there but none the less I had the laptop connected.

I was at Advance Auto getting some fittings and there was a Honda Civic parked there, with the large coffee can muffler, window grapics, and annoyingly painted trim. I immediately thought how much fun it would be to roost this guy in my totally stock-appearing, needs-paint 1988 Ciera XC.

The owner was a 20 something guy with an attitude to match the car. He irritated the counter guy and took way too much time considering other customers were waiting. Two strikes against him - not counting the car!

Leaving the store, I noticed he was working in his car. The engine had matching yellow accents painted on it to match the A/C vents and exterior trim. It had a cold-air intake with cone filter and some other shiny parts on it.

I got in my XC, cranked up, and placed my bag in the backseat. As I carefully back up, BZOOM BEEEEP BEEEEP riceboy is flying around me, honking at me like I am not supposed to back out of my spot, into HIS high-speed lane in the parking lot.

He's in front of me signalling left, with the double-speed flasher thing going on. I'm behind him signalling normally, windows closed and still hearing his radio and exhaust.

Light goes green, we turn left and he gooes to WOT straight towards a red light, then brakes hard to stop. I calmly pull up beside him and look at him. He is in a lane that disappears. My lane is through. He knows "it is on" now. He revvs his bumblebee can muffler. This is perfect I think! Light goes green, and I open up the 2.8 Turbo. It quickly rips to 5500 RPM in first and second gear, leaving the Civic in the dust! His car was SO LOUD I could not hear my engine over his noise as I was passing.

Now on the 2-lane road I set on a safe speed of 60 MPH. Riceboy is behind me, flashing his high beams, beeping his horn, and swerving back and forth like he wants to pass. After about another 3 miles, he finally turns off the road into a trailer park neighborhood!

Very good first kill for the XC! Lots of grins and giggles from this!

Did a short video today. Tune is working very well! Traffic was out this morning so I couldn't make a long video.
By the way - the tach is TOTALLY inaccurate - the laptop shows it shifting at about 5600 RPM.
My Olds Ciera XC Turbo. Mostly salvage yard parts went into the turbo conversion. No engine modifications other than high volume oilpump.

I'm happy with it. Paid scrap metal price for the car. It's an XC 90th anniversary Olds so there aren't many of them. It runs like that^ now. It has ice cold A/C. It's just got all the 20+ years old GM car restoration issues like the weatherstripping, faded paint, cruise not working etc. to deal with!

Thanks! It does indeed run well.

Yeah the tach is..... whacked! I haven't had time to check it yet. It may be that someone swapped in a 4 cylinder instrument panel and therefore the tach is way off calibration. I'll fix it when I have the IP out of the car for lightbulb changing.

The speedometer is correct, as verified by GPS and the ECM data on the laptop.

              Later,
              David

Just for fun, someone reminded me of this thread and I decided to post some pictures of the car, now that she's been painted!

Wish I could get a new stripe along the side, with the orange / red color gradient.
                Sincerely,
                David

Thanks! I will be driving this car on a roadtrip soon. It's very enjoyable to drive. The handling is impressive and of course it's plenty quick.

Man that is great that it has both the power and handling! I did link your other build to a new guy that was thinking about doing the same thing with the same car.
                        Nice to see you back.

Thanks, I appreciate your linking my build like that. Could you post a link to his thread?

By the way, the XC made it the 420 miles from Northport, AL to Broussard, LA today without any issues.

Ah yeah I know who that is! Been to their home and helped work on projects. His son also has a Ciera with a 3300 and 4-speed manual swap. It is badass and one of the most unique builds I have ever seen - moreso than mine!!!
