  • Hyd lifter range question

My set of SSI Hyd. lifters for a flat tappet cam have a measured piston travel of .204 inches. When I set up the rocker arm geomerty I am thinking that I will have a range of adjustment of about .100 if I leave .050 on either end. Is .050 lifter piston range allowance for wear and expansion enough margin or is it more than I need? Just trying to get the rockers setup right. Larry

Yes that would be ok. You really only need to add a small amount of preload. The less you add the better the high rpm performance. If you want a number I would go .020 to .040 I would set up a dial indicator on one rocker and note the amount of turns needed to get in that range and then set the rest by adding the same amount of turns. It may only be 1/2 to 1 turn.

Perfect, I think the pushrod lengths I have will be about .040 different from what is needed on the intake and exaust, so I can put one down .050 and one down .090 and have the geometry even. Larry
