  • plan to swap 3400 into Beretta, which mods?

Hi guys, i am really thinking about to swap in a 3400 into my 91 Beretta (3.1/5spd) and i really would like to keep the car as a daily driver, just with some more horses and tq than now
First, i really would like to have the car into the 14s and since there are 14s 3400 cars out there i dont think its too hard... Im not sure yet what mods but i already started to think about what i should get. I dont want to do much mods cause its still my daily but i thought a cam would be a good start.
What cam should i get? I was thinking about the street/strip cam or street cam for it but im not sure yet. Should i get an port/polish on the heads? Maybe better intake that wot-tech offers too?
The bad thing is that i want to keep the stock exhaust which is 2 1/4... MAYBE i would upgrate to 2.5" like on my GTZ if it would help cause i dont want to get headers for it. I really would get headers but i bet the car will be much louder than now even if i use cat and muffler...
Thought about to use the 3400 manifolds or 3500 and maybe the 2.5" exhaust. But i really would like to keep it more silence.

What other mods could i do? Should be possible to have a 14s beretta right there or i am wrong?

Upgrading the downpipe will be a significant improvement for your exhaust if you don't want to do headers. Everything else, just depends on how much you want to spend.

if its a 5spd a stock 3400 will get you in the 14s. I would do 2.25 or 2.5" exhaust while your at it

Okay cool. Anyone know what topspeed a stock 3400 car with 5speed has? I would be pretty happy for 140mph topspeed and thought a nice cam could help the topspeed too since it sets up the powerbrand. Depends on the cam of course and i would like to know how will be the street/strip or even the strip cam for daily driving. Wot-tech says the strip cam has some slight lope so i think it should be just fine to run it on the street. What mpg will i have if i am easy on throttle with a cammed 3400 engine? Right now i get about 24mpg when i drive pretty normal and up to 30mpg on highway.
And if anyone wonders why i care about topspeed... i drive often on germany autobahn and there is no speedlimit.
Alxsmt, do you daily drive your beretta? And your link in your description does not work, do you have a new link where i can see all your mods?

well if you daily drive your car the 3400 is a great swap... a little better then the 3500. with my 3500 and 4t60e ( auto) i think I can hit 220kmh easy.

thats basically up to date other than the konis.

It was a daily driver but I drive a lot and it got spendy. It gets about 20-25mpg. geo metro is way cheaper lol.

with a stock 3400 I hit 132mph on gps in my young stupid days. it did go faster, 140 may be pushing it. thats a lot of RPMs

this is an rpm/speed chart for the v6 5spds with 225/50/16 tires

Onces you get into the 14's you'll want 13's trust me.But yes i and may others have hit 14's with a stock 3400.Well i did have headers. But think about it Much easier to install a cam now then pulling the motor again.

yes robert i bet your right, lol but still plan to keep it as a daily so sometime another car follows that needs to be some faster than the beretta

I found a pretty cheap 2.8 V6 near complete engine only the intake is missing and i could get it pretty damn cheap($400)... so i was thinking about to do a hybrid build but not sure yet. would anyone recomment this? I have acces to 3400 engine parts too and even complete engine but its ALOT expensivier than the 2.8, 3400 engines are $1500 and more. And since it will be the gen2 2.8 block i could use stock motor mounts and all...
So im in the air with this situation right now... eighter a complete 3400 V6 engine or get the 2.8 V6 engine with 3400 topend and/or 3500 heads, intake and a cam from wot-tech. Will a 2.8 V6 3400 hybrid do similar power as a stock 3400? If so, the 2.8 hybrid would be cheaper and better to do since i want 3500 heads/intake anyways instant of going with expensive stock 3400 ? What would you guys recomment?

You could use the 3400 topend on a 2.8 but not the 3500.Crane cams made a H272-2 cam that would make more power. But i don't think the kind a 3400/3500 build would.Think about the budget and how much power you want.I thought about doing the same a few years ago.But i found a engine cheap now there are alot more

The hybrid was a swap people were doing before they knew how to install a full 3400 or 3500. the bottom end of a 2.8 or 3.1 is weaker and you will loose the roller cam. Not the best block to start a performance build.
