  • Question on 3100 large port swap

My brother just bought a 1996 GP with only 80k miles on it. He was a bit bummed by the power difference between my LQ1 96 and his (I was a bit surprised as well as my LQ1 is pushing 200k). Since it needs LIM gaskets anyway, I was going to large port swap it. I have a few Q's though. Thanks for any help.

I'm a bit confused though as on the WOT-TECH site it says 00 and 03 date stamped manifolds as the best. Does this mean 01 and 02 are somehow different and inferior?

Also don't LG8 engines use different injectors? Should I get the rail, injectors, and harness? Does this ideally require a tune or reflash to LG8 software? I have a DHP. Or is just ok to reuse the old Multec 1's in the new LIM?

I don't check the forums as often as I used to. The 01 and 02 are the same 00 stamp, sorry for the confusion. If you are using the stock computer, then the stock injectors and fuel rail will be the best setup to make the stock tune work or tune from there. The larger injectors would allow more room before you peak them out, as 19# isn't much for what will be at least 165 CHP. Swap in the 56mm TB and you will have 175 easily. The small port sucks and the 52mm TB sucks as well for performance.

Thanks, Ben. Good to year you can get that much more hp on a small valve head.I figured they were worth 10hp tops.
