What are you talking about? He doesn't need a mini-afc. Those are useless these days. Installing a black box to change the maf signal and trick the pcm is a hack way of doing things. Especially considering he has HP tuners. The pcm uses the maf signal for other things as well like determining engine load and calculating transmission shift pressures. Messing with that signal can screw up other things on your car. It worked back in the day when people had no other way to tune, but it's far from the best way of doing it. A proper tune is the only good way of changing the MAF signal.
Anyway there are only two reasons to upgrade the MAF. You are either maxing out the signal, or close enough to it that the MAF is now causing an air flow restriction. Usually you have to be running boost to get close to either of those, so most people are fine with the stock MAF. As an example I am running an LS1 MAF and see just over 10,000Hz at redline and 9.5psi. Peak is 11,500Hz , so with a stock MAF I'd probably be maxed out and it would definitely be a restriction.
Also iirc the LS1 MAF isn't the biggest one they make. I seem to remember reading something about some of the turbo GTP guys using a larger MAF from a truck or something? I didn't really pay that much attention though since I don't intend on going any larger.

Gotta love boost!
why would you want to throw in some mickey-mouse hardware when you can already do a more consistent job using proper methods, especially when the cost difference is so little?

Still, you do not need an LS1 MAF. I understand the tuning process and how the MAF works, thank you.
If you run out of MAF signal with a stock MAF you can use the mini-afc to scale the MAF signal and adjust your tune in HP tuners accordingly.
Still, I stand by saying that you probably won't need either, it takes a lot to max our MAF.
Again... that's the WRONG way to do it. By scaling back the MAF signal your pcm isn't getting true information about the amount of air coming in or the engine load, and if you move enough air to max out the stock maf signal then it's become a restriction and needs to be upsized.

could always find out what the LS9 uses, that beast rolls out almost 640HP, that'll flow some air.
I would rather just buy the car that it comes in to get that MAF. Time to start saving $$$...
