  • 3500 top swap write-up and what vehicles and years

Looking for a write up for a 3500 top swap. I just bought a 01 GA GT with blown head gaskets and figured I might as well upgrade while im in there. I want to make it a weekend project and i would like a list of parts, then buy the parts i will need before starting the job. So far i know i will have to use my 3400 uim so i dont have to worry abt the tb. 8mm rockers will be needed. but not sure what year make and model 3500 i can get the heads from. I am working on a budget and dont want to spend over $500 for the complete project. If anyone has already made a list or helpful knowledge, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Hugger

Welcome to the site. Doubt you'll be able to do it for less than $500, unfortunately. Just the gaskets and bolts for the top end swap is going to run you close to $200.

might be cheaper yet to just swap to a full 3500 engine. i did it for less than $600 including crank sensor and ALL new sensors, gaskets, etc.... more work however. but dont we all love wrenching on cars anyway?

I bought a whole engine for $475 shipped to my front door. and I've picked most of the parts from out of the junkyard, I'm probably up to $550-$650.

yeah, but why bother, the motor I bought had 38,000 miles, that's nothing.

Yeah you'll spend the same amount doing to topend as you would buying the engine. I picked mine up for $275 with 27,000 miles on it. The engine we can use only had like a 3 year run or something and there isnt much demand for them so thats why you can get them for cheap, cheaper then a low mileage 3400. The swap is a little more involved then a 3400 swap but not impossible.
