Looks like a lot of oil. Did you by chance flip the engine upside down where oil could seep through the rings? Was there oil in the combustion chamber?

Chambers are clean mostly, not oil like on the pistons, I'm thinking maybe the rings haven't seated just yet, or it's from prior to that, or maybe it hasn't run long enough to burn the oil from Assembally

Wow, guess I don't know what to say about the oil, never seen the inside of a recently built engine before. If I was in your shoes, it would bug the crap out of me. Did you notice it smoking at all before it stopped running? Valve seals would be my first thing to look at, cause I would really hope the rings wouldn't cause something like that. That's also with my limited knowledge on engine rebuilds, so this is all just based on assumption. Hope you can get it figured out and re-assembled soon, this is a bad-ass setup you've got.1996 Beretta, 3400/5 speed, internet Tune, FFP UDP, Billet/poly mounts, ported intake manifolds, WAI, 2.5" mandrel exhaust, Borla ProXS, Intrax, KYB, poly front end kid, welded a-arms, strut, shock and sub-frame braces.

So the blocks out and apart, so far I've remeasured my end play which was .006", then I check to see if I had any bent rods, now, oddly enough, I measured with the rotating assembly installed with a dial caliper. The rear pistons came out of the block .0023", and all the front pistons measured at .0016", so I guess my crank isn't centered in the block from factory? Other than that, the knock came from a mix of things, mostly being it running hot as it wasn't completely bleed of air in the coolant, and that it was getting over fueled.

what's the status on this build? I keep reading and I shouldn't I want to do heads and cam on mine now thanks to you

so you want to do heads and cam or not? my issue was running large injectors with no tune what so ever and fairly high compression, so i had a hydro lock issue, i tore my motor apart fearing the worse and only turned up a slightly damaged rod bearing, i have to put the motor all back together, which should happen tomorrow hopfully.
Ive had job issues and a basement reno on the go ontop of the build, not to mention all the other countless little things. my main concern latly was getting heat, running water, and hot water back in my house, not my hot rod :P

glad to see you'll be getting back to it, the other stuff always comes first tho!

so i got my rings all gapped properly, i only had to clearance 1 top ring, and 6 2nd rings, here is my other consern, this is most likely due to the detination, as i did plastic gauge all the bearings
and heres the small scratch that i was worried about, i cant pick it up with my finger nail so i'm satisfied

why am i having such troubles installing my piston with rings, seems no matter what i do, one ring pops out no matter what i do, no matter what, could it just be my POS tool?

yeah, i figured thats what you were after, but good on you for asking.
I wont lie, i rushed putting it together, i measure the top ring initially i measured the top ring, it was in spec, and then i figured the rest would be the same. I did how ever clearance all the bearings, and this time all the rings so its worry free. What can i say, it was 34+*c and i rushed it, exactly what i was told not to do.
I also had troubles putting the pistons in the first time too. So i have 2 extra sets of bearings as i had 8 rods and 8 bearings, and clearly i have 4 halfed damaged bearings, anyone see an issue using those extra 4 halfed bearings on the rods?

bad oil pressure at start up? or not enough assy lube during build? That's a lot of marking on the rods for such short running time... How long did you have the engine running and did you drive the car anywhere?
