  • 3400 N/A Monte Build Thread

Guess its about time to start up the build thread, things are getting really close to coming together.
For those that dont know specific details, its a full 3400 build, upgrading a few things to handle the heat/power of the power plant.

I have lots of small things done, but theres still alot to go! so far I have purchased 11.5:1 diamond pistons, TCE DRTC, all bottom end bearings, feither weight H-beam connecting rods (weighing 65 grams- or less than factory) so I hope to pick up a few HP and rev potential with those, final weight will come when they are machined to fit, which should drop the weight even more! comp cam 26986 springs so I can just about stuff what ever cam i want in it, stiffer lifter springs, manley retainers.
I'm doing my own port work for budget reasons. Bens work is beautiful, but saving money, and having some experiance, and all the avalible tools i'm going to do it myself.
180* waste spark long tube headers, they have been mocked up in the car with a empty block and trans, so they should fit with barly any clearance of the master, about 1 1/2"-2", but i can change that, I cant completely finish them till the block is back together, heads are torqued down, and more permanate spot welds are done. Here is there progress:

The main idea of this project is to make max HP, maintain some sort of fuel economy (hopping for 25+MPG) and reliability and longevity, so for that I'm building a high performance 4t65E with red line clutches, high stall tourqe converter, HD diff, shift kit and valve body upgrades, and more! the parts are on order, and re-assembally of the trans should take place in a week or so.

The car is a 2005 montecarlo LS, i've done some visual upgrades like lowering springs, 19" custom ASA rims, SS style hood and blacked out head lights, and y'd exhaust, heres how she sits now:

from here i'm just going to post random pictures of things as they get done with some detail for people following. Like extra clearance for the DRTC, and some casting clean up to aid in oil return:

Usually with W-body cars people take the l67 route, it's great to see someone doing something different!

Am I looking at the front or the back? The LIM would lead me to believe I'm looking at the front.

the LIM is on backwards, its the back, cant you tell from the valve cover? lol i think i'm going to re route #6 pipe i believe it is, drivers rear bank, its 6" to short from the longest pipe of the whole contraption

That's what I thought. You might have a hard time running the coolant line from the LIM to the firewal.

Thats going to be a threaded custom fitting, i've already forseen this problem before i even got 1/6th of the way into making the headers, along with 2 possibly 3 head sheilds for the master, rack and TB to keep it extra cool, and i'm looking for a good self adhearing insalation for the firewall.

Coil packs, and sensors are A-okay, the dip stick solutions are actually just turning them 180* and re-welding the mounting tabs for engine and trans oil. really simple fix
