  • V6 guru's out there please help

Ok so i just picked up a 90,000mile 3.4 that someone pulled apart and i'm looking to bump compression to the range of 10:1-13:1's

The parts i am using are
    P&P Iron 3.4 heads
and prob going to do a Duel TB setup
272H crane cam with Fulcrum roller rockers from 3400 v6
    custom pushrods

the reason i'm useing iron heads is i bought them along time ago and i have alot of money wrapped up in them so i wanna put them to use.

So my question is what can i do with stock pistons, rods, and cranks out of other motors so i can achieva the compression i'm looking for w/o having to go to
custom order pistons. Cause i already know i can call and custom order the desired compression i'm looking for.

    thanks

with 3.4 DOHC pistons and .040" headgaskets you can get to 9.95:1, that's the highest you'll get out of any stock 60v6 piston that'll fit while using the iron heads.

Ok so i did some looking around on my block 3.4 (P/R) and its got some rust starting on 1 cylinder right now so i was thinking to buy a new set of pistons for a 3.4 (DOHC) motor and bore my 3.4 and put them in so i found this http://www.summitracing.com/search/y...?Ns=Rank%7cAsc I don't know much about all the bore's & what not's so i'm looking for some help this link i posted is for a 93.00mm bore size i figured i would go a bit bigger than the stock 3.4 (P/R) bore size since i will need to bore the block anyways so will this work? can i buy these just like this from summit and make it work with my iron heads w/o any moding? My 3.4 (P/R) motor only has 90,000 miles on it i picked it up all torn apart and wanna go ahead and rebuilt it now be4 i install in the fiero. Please and thanks If i'm wrong on anything can someone point me in the right (link) to summit or somewhere i can buy cheap replacement pistons for the 3.4 (P/R) motor i went for a set of dome pistons to try to achieve somewhere in the range 10:1's-11:5.1's for the 3.4 (P/R) motor thanks

Those will work and long and you spec'd the application out. I would go to the manufacturer website and double check the P/N. Federal Mogal also sells replacement pistons. You can go 1mm over no problem. There are no off the shelf flat top pistons or even dome ones to bump up compression. But you can mill the heads and deck a bit.

However you are dealing with an open chamber iron head. You cannot go sky high on compression without detonation like you can with a fast burn aluminum head.

Yes DOHC 3.4L pistons will work. Many people have done it. Just spec out what you want at the manufacturers site to double check your part numbers. With DOHC pistons and shaving the heads 0.010 and the block 0.010 you will easily get 10:1 compression or just over with a .040" head gasket. Thats about all you should go with that cam and 87 or 89 octane gas.

i well be running 91octane and i DONT KNOW HOW TO SPEC IT thats why i'm asking if someone can help me with that!!!!! Thats what i'm getting at i know you can run DOHC pistons my friend has one and i know you can run 31/34/3500 heads on the 3.4 block i know that i just need to know if the bore size of the ones in the link will work in my block being that there dome pistons and also what would i have to bore a stock 3.4 block over to 2 achieve the right size for piston to wall clearence

You take your pistons you are going to use with the block when you get it bored. Different piston sets want different running clearances, the Federal Mogul 3.1 pistons with a coated skirt want .001 to .002. Larry

I don't really like doing peoples shopping for them but I did take a look at the Keith Black website and could not find that piston. Personally I like Federal Mogul piston number WH684CP 1.0MM they have a coated skirt for reduced friction. They are 1mm over sized. Do not get any machine work done until you have the pistons.

Scroll down and it will tell you how to calculate if a certain piston will work in your engine or not. From there, you have all the information you need to help you figure out your CR using the site's CR Calc.
