  • Doug Thorley header opinions.

I posted already but, I picked up a set of custom Doug Thorley headers off one of the aztek pace cars and was wondering about a couple things and people's opinions.

    1. The crossover, it's 2.5in should flow plenty enough with the supercharger. I think the fit around the engine is fine since the aztek was a 3400, but not sure about the exhaust tunnel going down on my car. May or may not fit, guess a test fit will only tell.

    2. Front header design? Good or bad? primaries are obviously shorter.

    3. Rear headers. They have three small holes right after the flange on each primary. Two are plugged but one is still open....what's with that?

    4. O2 sensors, The front one is just on the rear bank probably a good 12" before the rear and crossover merge. I know its not a problem on S&S headers with tuning, but is closer to the merge point, should I plug and weld a new one farther down?

    5. The downpipe (obviously has to be modified, I think the ange is right, but on the alero it is straight back for awhile, not curved like this one) merges from 2.5 into a 3" pipe. Should be fine for my supercharged setup, just might hurt a little before the charger is on.

    6. The headers themselves don't seem to be coated, but more likely a well worn stainless perhaps? How do I tell?

That's pretty much it, any other insights or opinions are welcome!

    Thanks, Kyle

they had thermocouples in the rear headers I suppose.

    Collectors aren't the best...

No flex bellow in the Xover pipe.

Still a nice set of headers I'd say though. nice find.

it looks like they went through some trouble to make the front headers relatively equal length, even when compared to the rear, so that's always good.

the plugs may have been for either EGR or maybe AIR injection

Could have had EGT sensors in it, what size are those holes?

Front header looks nice and time consuming. I never was a fan of the 3 bolt setup.

They appear to be media blasted, but only way to tell is to dabble on some good paint stripper/remover and watch for a chemical reaction to take place.

I don't know offhand, but they are small, like 1/4" diameter at the most.

I'm not a fan of the three bolt either, but they will stay that way this summer, and next winter I will probably take them off and do some modifications to them....

looks like the front header looks like it was made to fit tight more than equal lenght, as #4 is very short, but other wise they look nice.
