exhuast question

I'm going to be building my first exhaust for my 94 Achieva. So far I'm getting an 18" glasspack in place of the resonator, and a dynomax Super turbo single in/dual out muffler.

I plan on getting 2 j bends, a u bend and a 4' straight tube for the piping, should this be enough tubing to complete the system? what type of bends does everyone else buy and how many? Thanks a lot

I know someone on here has done their own exhaust, I'm just wondering how much pipe I should buy?

Why not get a measuring tape and do some measuring? Figure out what you have for stock and then get a little more than that (to compensate for any screw ups that might happen ). Make sure you get mandrel bends.

are you just doing from "catback" or from the exhaust manifold back?

if this is your first time building it i'd buy an extra bend just in case.

but for a "catback" style you'll likely only need 2-3 bends. if your doing from the manifold back add in another bend.

i did my bend around the gas tank/over the axle to the muffler with only 2 Jbends.

J's or U's are the same just one has a longer leg, so use this to determine which piping you'll need. makes it easier sometimes with the longer legs as then you dont have to scab in more length of straight pipe between the pieces that are bending.

thanks, anyone use a dynomax muffler on a 3x00? I don't really need the exhaust very loud, I don't mind if its loug at WOT. But I do a lot of driving in the middle of the night (stuoid night shift) so I don't want to be the ass that wakes everyone up in the Tri-state area, if you know what I mean

I wouldn't think it would be too loud. Just don't get on the throttle real heavy when you come through residential areas.

so I'm thinking that I'll leave the resonator on, so the exhaust will be a bit quieter. But if I cut the pipe behind the resonator I'll have to get an expander/reducer pipe to transition to the 2.5" pipe. I measure the stock piping and it looks to be about 1.9" diameter (6" around) I can't seem to find an expander/reducer to transition between 1.9 and 2.5. Anyone have know of a better way to go about this?

the only way to mearge the two together is by doing what you stated you should do.

you can buy 2 inch to 2.5 inch. just going to have to look around.

A glasspack would probably tone things down as much as you would like without having to use a reducer. No point in going to larger exhaust if you're just going to reduce it in the middle.
