Full street trim. nothing removed from the car, stereo was still in there even. LOL...

full exhaust (i didnt open the headers up just yet) thought i'd try the new system and see what it can do with the full system on there.

    stock ECM programing blah.

cant wait untill the Holley ECU and new injectors go in, still have to wire up the MSD DIS4 as well. and i'd Love to get some Drag radials or go all out and get some slicks!! :P

the Transmission was fixed from last years dissapointing let down of no 4th gear under load.. turned out to be a bent shifter select notch on the 3/4 rail... so when under load it would slip past and not push on the rail.. ruined the synchro and blocking ring.

transmission was repaired with the following:

    new 3rd blocking ring,
    4th blocking ring
    3/4 Synchro/hub
swapped the 5K mile new 3rd blocking ring for 5th (those 3 use the same rings) due to the 5th gear was starting to catch a few times.
snagged a 3/4 rail from one of my parts transmissions as well to fix the bent shit.

the LSD from Engineered Performance was Upgraded from the "street" setup i had to the full on "race" spec.. Again EP are a great company to deal with. they had my diff back to me in no time at all!

and the trans got a bit of a closer ratio fix as well, aquired another spare parts trans a while back...
    1.03:1 4th gear (stock was 4th was 0.94:1)
and swapped out the stock 3.61:1 FDR for the 3.94:1 gearing.

i left 5th alone instead of the upgraded .80:1 i left it stock at .72:1 for better highway mileage with the low FDR gearing. (dont use 5th for racing anyways)

    was a fun day.
heaps of area's for improvement on the car. should see a bit better time from me this year yet.

hey man thats great thos those are sweet times. I also raced my 3400 last night i got four runs in with the best a 60foot: 2.184, 1/8th: 9.478@ 75.32, 1/4: 14.866 @ 91.62

Again the biggest problem is traction. Im going to be working on that coming up soon. This was my first time ever racing at the track, it was a great learning experience. Im going to race next friday too.

PLEASE dont think im a dick. I dont know how to word this without sounding like a dick. So keep that in mind when you read this.Im curious about this. So anything under 15 seconds is considered "amazing" for you guys? I see "wow" and *jaw hits the floor* with a mid 14 time.

Im almost embarrased to post timed in the 13's.

If you guys really wanna go fast....whats stopping you? Are you guys just swapping motors and seeing what stock motors do? A chip and a CAI is still stock to me.

Again, Im trying to understand where you guys are coming from here...

donk 316, try doing what Colin did with a back seat and the axle on the other side of the car. Add about 100 horsepower to drop ETs by about one second and increase trap speed about 10 MPH and the computer has not been matched...which will be the glue that will put it all together.

Besides when you add more hp for a front driver traction is basically out the window. A good example is a forced inducted Fiero V6 of any configuration will net you on average another half second or more on pump gas and mild tune. Not much of a gain from you current setup, huh? There are very few in the 12s.

Keep in mind that he's not driving some sports car or muscle car. It's an econobox... an econobox modified to be quick.

As far as I know, he's got the fastest normally aspirated (still fwd) J-body now.

The thing that makes mid and low 14s so "amazing" on these cars is that there's very little performance aftermarket available, they only came with 140 hp stock, and barely ran in the high 15s.
Colin hasn't simply dropped in a different stock motor like some of the 3400 guys are doing.
Colin, along with a handful of others, have done tons of research into what should work, and then tried it, without knowing for sure that all their hard work and money would even pay off in the end.
If we all just wanted to post "amazing" times, we'd dump in a N2o kit and be done with it, but naturally aspirated with almost 100 hp more than stock on a daily driver is pretty damn amazing if you ask me.

Besides, if we really wanted nothing other than to go fast, we'd pick up some C4, Camaro, or some small RWD car and build a hot SBC.

At least that's what I'd do.

But in the end, who expects a SUNBIRD to pull low 14s?

At's a heap of power! You have served us well Yoda. I would love to post low 14s with my 3.4 Cutty. Maybe someday....... Will take a lot of money, (Donations accepted and sell grand-kids) Time, (can't seem to find any,a little less time on the computer would help,I just don't have the car back yet), and a little more knowledge. I always find that here! After the meet in late July, I might just get a beater to drive to work and start some serious modifications. Can't really change a whole lot untill I own it. That comes in Sept. Untill then, all I can do is chips and dips. And more beer.

some pics (sorry for the size of the 3. i didnt bother resizing them)

(yeah for those with a keen eye the condenser has been removed and the a/c lines are still disconnected... removed it friday night to install the new cooling fans properly, didnt want to put the plastic push through ties through the condenser.. it will be reinstalled this week, i now have to convert over to R134a... had to remove my fully functioning, very cold, non leaking R12 from the system to fabricate the headers... the sacrifice's we all make for more power i guess)

Donk. hey i understand why you are puzzled... i guess i would wonder the same thing myself if i was in your shoes.. but remember this is not a Fiero, its a 2700-2800 pound plain jane econobox FWD'er (plus add 200 pounds for my weight) that was a stock slow 15.9-16.X car from the factory with only 140 hp....

my engine isnt actually a 3400 swap like some guys have done. its still a 3.1L with a few mods... much like a small block with vortec heads is still just a regular 350..

the hard part like Norm and the rest have said is anytime you add more and more HP to the FWD car you are fighting against worse and worse traction. (which is the next hurdle im going to fight against and fix) currently The ONLY suspension mod i have right now is a set of KONI rear shocks. (set to firm) everything else is still stock, springs and stock front struts. LOL. i dont even have Eibachs or any other "sport" springs in there yet.

im starting to look at Norm and Franz and Curtis' cars with their Rear Airbag setups now however... might just have to try those next year.

i do have a set of Front struts im working on a Custom Coilover setup for but i have to still find the right double adjustable shock insert to use.. ($$$) wont be happening now with the new house purchase this year.

Thanks Everyone! im stoked. i'd like to see if i can hit a 14.0-14.1 this year now.
