Colin, That looks like Corey's Daytona in the first pic. Was it? He had a wicked fast car.

      Again... Awesome run bro.

The Shelby Daytona was Corey. He ran mid 13's I heard at Gimli.

            Mid 13s is "wicked" fast?

              Good job...

14's are good for that car. Much better than a stock Honda. Of course, there are new 1.8 and 2.0L getting the same power with the exception of a little less torque and not down in the powerband like a bigger engine. Someone will have a car going low 13's n/a within the next year. I hope it is me!

He did them in his garage, and it takes alot of research to design them properly.

That Sunbird looks evil. With the squinty headlights and jet black paint. I think it looks cool. 14.3 is just wow, especially with a 3.1 still under the hood. I'll be happy with mid 15s out of my 3100.

its actually not that hard... just time consuming, and alot of planing and thinking it out. that and making sure you go through with the plans. thats the hard part. its easy to say "im going to build some headers" but the hard part is taking that first step and actually doing it.

Marty and Franz have also made thier own headers too. oh and that aaron guy as well...

thanks. yeah i still love the look of the 2nd gen phase 2 GT sunbirds..
i have my Daytime Running lamps actually hooked up to the sunbirds Lowbeam headlights, but they're wired in such a way that it leaves the headlamp doors closed while they're on. so its got that cool meanacing look, also nice for just city cruising as they're bright enough this way, but doesnt ruin the look of the front end like when the actual headlights are turned on and the half doors open..

in the pic however i have my DRL kill switch turned on for the track. this way im not wasting battery on headlights that dont need to be on.

Good show. Hell, even with RWD and slicks that wouldn't be too bad! Congrats Colin.

It's funny, GM has spent so much time on the cylinder heads with bigger intake ports, bigger intake valves, and even redesigned exhaust ports, but the stock exhaust manifolds are obviously designed to help the motor fit in a vehicle well, not to help the motor make power. Well designed headers, like the ones you have created Colin, unlock potential that GM has designed into the heads. It is probably the single most important thing you can do for this motor.

I'll be interested in seeing how things progress with further tuning.

You should be commended for your good work and good results, and Chris (the guy who came up with the very nice exhaust flanges) should also be commended for facilitating your efforts.

Did you document the process with photos and such? It would be a good confidence builder for people considering the process if there was an article on this site a person could refer to and learn what you learned about the process.

Yeah, without Chris (farmerz24) i wouldnt have had my flanges made, but then again without me bugging him to get the place to make some and providing the gasket to go off of, he wouldnt have been making these.. its a nice deal we worked out. he's a good guy. you should see his projects he has going on... its crazy.

yup, i totally documented the header build process in as full detail as i could.
all pics are in my web folder here:

i have pics separated into the front header and rear header and other misc stuff.

i'll have to take a pic today (im at work just cleaning up some stuff on the car) of the rest of the exhaust stystem... have it on the hoist right now.

its really cool to hear great comments like this from you guys. makes all those years and waaaaaaaaay too many long hours and long nights working on the car continually worth ever bit of it.
that and its a blast to drive.

Marty yeah the 40 series Delta flow is fucking LOUD... well raspy and shitty and tin canny and honda like. its a 14inch long muffler so with no room but to put in a longer muffler im going to try a 18 inch long Magnaflow due to its the packed style muffler instead of the loud ass'd chambers like the flowmaster.

sounds fucking wicked at idle and sounds really nice at 4K + under load. but from 1500-3500 its really fucking embarasing with teh noise it makes. sounds awefull.

i'll have to post a clip of the car idling later today too. :P
