  • Rocker arms

I have the 99 3.4L v-6 and i am building an 11:1 compression with all the goodies that go along with it. I am wanting to also up grade the rocker arms. I have seen someone with the 3.4L with the crane rocker arms. I know that the 3.1L are similar so would these rocker arms fit? Or does anyone else out there know of some rocker arms that work?

here's the link to the rocker arms

After further reading these rocker arms are good for the 3.4L v-6! Here is a list of rocker arms we can use that is available through them. The crane racing rocker arms are at the bottom of the page. I will be using these for my build.

Your not really upgrading to much with these rockers, a few grams in weight and a roller tip, if they were a higher ratio i'd say go for it.

well look at it this way OEM replacement rocker arms are about 280 bucks from napa. A set from crane is 350 bucks. so for about 70 bucks more you can get lighter, higher ratio roller tip arms. Not to bad IMO, though they might not be a big jump in performance it is still better than stock and doesn't cost to much when you consider how small the market is for these engines.

They aren't a higher ratio, they are the exact same ratio - 1.6. And why do you need OEM replacements? Is there something wrong with your current ones?

they are the same ratio... stock is 1.6, those offered are 1.52 and 1.6. i would just buy one, have the heads assembaled, studs in place (or bolts, but if your running 11:1 CR i'd use studs) and see if the rocker works in ever single spot. then, report your findings here and go to town, or only be out 20$ You know ive never heard of a stock rocker wearing out, i always imagined there pretty bomb proof.

I like your idea but i know there is already someone using these, i will see if i can find him and ask how they are, if they are worth the extra 70 bucks. I am bringing this up because i'm in the process of building my spare block. I am just trying to pick out what parts i want and seeing what options that are out there since the market for this engine is small

Some people have had to modify them slightly in order to clear everything inside the 3x00 valve covers. AaronGAGT would be the person to talk to (or just do a search for his posts concerning them), as I know he has them and had to modify them so they didn't interfere.

Second one has information about what needs to be done to make them fit, or at least where the interference is...

Those COMP rockers have a wider trunnion. I know they will NOT work on iron heads but the splayed valve heads may afford some more clearance for the wider trunnion.

Crane Golds work for sure on all engines. The 3400 just needs LIM clearancing.

since these rockers are a 3/8 stud size would a saft mounted system be avalible since the high compression also means big cam and big cam means more spring tension and more lift which can produces flex and plays games with lift and duration just some thoughts

3400 with splayed valves, so no-go on shaft rockers.
