  • My first real mods in a while...

Well, I figure since the car is running again, I'd post about it. Some of you guys know what I've been up to anyways.
First off, I've installed Harland Sharp full roller rockers. These aren't a direct bolt in. I used ARP studs for it with 10mm lower threads and 3/8" top. I also notched some parts on each side of the intake manifold as well. Nothing major though. So far they work fine, but I do need to adjust them a little.
Next was a project I've been working on for over a year.
I've successfully built a two throttle body intake for my Gen II 3.1. It runs, and even idles ok. Since I've started on it, I've learned more about how I should've built it, so it may change in the future, but I made it in a way I can redo the plenums without much headache. I'll likely add more runner length to it as well. I originally built it with the intent on making it all fit under the hood, which it BARELY does now, but I think overall power is gonna be more important.
The next thing I did was make the stock 3.1 MPFI regulator adjustable. Since I don't have the normal intake running over top of the regulator, I can access it to adjust it no problem.

    Now, for the downfalls.
Took the car out to test it, and it revs much more freely, but apparently years of abuse and 6000+ rpm shifts don't mix, because my second gear synchro is decided that's it on my first test run. So as you may have read in my other post, I'm looking for the GTZ tranny, lightweight flywheel and a better clutch.
I also took the car to the track anyways (if the tranny's gone, it's going out in style!) and ran slightly slower than before. Only 0.15 seconds slower, but still not what I was hoping for.
Some problems I ran into is the A/F is leaning out over 5500 rpm, but once I get the regulator adjusted right, that might help, though proper programming is needed. The rockers I think are still a little loose as well. And as always, traction problems.

Here's a pic for those interested.

That's some sweet lookin work. How much was it to switch over all the rockers? Was there any more than just the studs and the rockers.

I had to notch out the intake some, you can just see it over top of #4 exhaust rocker. The rockers were bought used, and the arp studs were on sale, so total cost was about half the Crane golds. I also ground some of the corners just to ensure clearance on some of the rear rockers. I think it would've cleared anyways, but I wanted to be sure. The Crane rockers are arc'd so they clear better than the straight topped Harland Sharps.

Franz, looks really good! Either you have a strong back ground in fluid dynamics or had some assistance. Your intake tubes reminds me of something from race car. Now your stepping on my toes.

I thought of doing something similar with the 2.8/3.1 upper intake. I just had a SS header made 2 years ago so a 3x00 conversion is out. The upper just needs more volume. I thought of doubling the upper by raising it and rewelding. Remember too that my upper and lower are Extrude Honed.

              Thanks guys,
Actually Norm, I don't have any background in fluid dynamics, though mechanical engineering is a field I would definately love to get into. I just did alot of resarch first, though I may redo some things about the upper intakes later.
And not sure if you realized, but I'm using Gen II heads, and my intake started life as a Gen II intake, just cut right down and had more piping TIG welded on. My front valve cover is a Gen III though.

Hey Franz, what year GTZ tranny are you looking for?

I just pulled mine from my 90 GTZ and I have it for sale.

no thats the same one as ours.

                  only 92-94 2.3L HO GTZ transmissions. and 92-93 2.3L HOGrand am 92-93/94 2.3L HO Acheiva's.

and ONLY those transmissions have the good gears.

Yeah they have the 3.94 gears vs the 3.61 in the 90-91 HO trannies.

Let me guess you swapped bellhousings and installed the LSD, is that the only thing you did?
