  • Circle Track 3.4

Has anyone used these engines succesfully in a dirt track car. We have been looking at these for some time now. We really don't need more than 225 HP, and the car only weighs 1500 lbs. Any info good or bad would greatly appreciated. You can contact me at 731-414-6922. Thank You.

Yea they were used for years in Midget cars. They will net you 225HP no sweat. There is nothing bad to say about the motor. Stock parts will wind to 7000RPM if you do a good build job. If the rods are improved you can go even higher. What else do you need to know about it?

Just for clarification, which 3.4 are you looking at? There is the iron head 3.4 which came in the 93-95 F-bodies. There is the 3.4 DOHC, which was available in 91-97 (?) W-bodies. And then there is the 3400 (which some people call a 3.4), which started in the vans in 96, and then in cars (N-bodies mostly) in 2000.

I'm new at this so bear with me. I sent a reply with specs of the car, but i don't know where it went. We need to know everything about this engine. Stock parts as well as aftermarket parts. Any build info for a circle track engine would be great. If anyone has time to call me, please do so at 731-414-6922. We are really looking forward to this new package. for 2011.

From the dyno to the track, this thing should be fast we weighed in at 1560 lbs. Will try to post some photos after the maiden voyage.

You can pick up a copy of the Chevy Power manual. It has modifications on prepping the engine for racing. There may even be some scans around the site of the pages.

They still are. There's a guy I sold a 3500 block to, who was making 340hp with a 3.4/3500 combo.

No. The gentleman was a senior and has been on the circuit for some time (not really internet savy). He showed me tons of pics and went through all the modifications made, some were even faded Polaroids haha. He bought the 3500 block because he cracked the Gen 1 block right down the cam valley and wanted the extra strength as well as most displacement. The engine had all BBC valvetrain, ITB's, custom billet crank, porting, shaving, solid roller cam, 15:1SCR etc.

He also has a 300hp iron duke-powered car that uses a singe v8 head. Really cool stuff when you talk to someone who has been around this stuff for decades. He was gawking at the 3500 heads once I showed him the difference from the 3400 heads, he went through all the parts I had and was writing down casting numbers. He really didn't care for the 3500 steel crank either, waved his hand and said, "nah, we have the cranks custom made" lol.

Custom made cranks ? What did I miss ? We just got back from the track with this new machine, I can not believe the power to weight ratio of course it was cold today, you would have thought this late model had a 600 HP engine in it. It was as strong on the last lap as the first.
