ok so i built this engine 2000 miles ago ive had intermittent lifter noise. like everything was perfect and i shut the car off start it back up and have a lifter ticking loudly. i shut it off and start it back up a few times it goes away. then i was cruising at 140 and it started ticking so i let off and its ticked since. i figured it was a bad lifter. im running
    mms stage one cast cam
    ls6 valve springs
    chromoly pushrods
i changed the lifters out and installed mms upgraded lifter spring kit one the new ones to help keep em pumped up. it still sounds like one lifter is ticking. its not as bad but still there. the car lacks no power and ive beat on it and the noise hasnt gotten worse. i have excelent oil pressure whwn warmed up it runs usually 20 to 25 at idle 50 to 60 when driving. im running 20 50 weight oil. i have been told a cam bearing could be bad but i havent had metal in the oil and my oil pressures great. im confused as hell.

I had the lifter spring upgrade cause lifter tick in my car. Mine is a 3900 and runs lower oil pressure though. I would say once it is ticking it needs to be replaced. One of mine was blue from internal friction. Try and locate the bad one and replace it or just replace them all, They aren't too expansive.

Try a normal oil man. Why are you running 50 weight? Realistically these engines could run 20 weight. But 30 weight is normal.

Lifters have the tightest working tolerances of pretty much any part in the engine. So any amount of gunk or blockage can make them tick. If you can disassemble the lifter you can usually fix it.

But I would try some regular oil and maybe some Rislone or Seafoam and see if it helps. If not it will take some old fashion work to fix.

Are you sure its not an injector?

You also might have incorrectly preloaded the lifter. I have seen that cause a fair bit of noise.

i got it fixed. i replaced em with my old ones i had. i disassembled and cleaned them all and checked them for wear then installed the upgrade spring kit. good to go now.
