That was a very good site but since it received very little traffic, the owner shut it down. It was a spin off of the yahoo group "chevycitationsforever". Lots of good info there.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

      That thing deserves a refresh.
Large journals for power handling, but you know something?

Have you thought of fuel injection?
That would make the car go and smoother. I'd be willing to help you out (send me a pm about it) if you are actually interested in fuel injection. I like your project, and it would be sick to see that.

OP, if you are close to eastern Iowa i have a 3.1 block with fresh cam bearings that you can have for free.. just come and get it. I also have a ton of other parts that are going to go to the scrap yard next spring, 2 or 3 3.1 cranks, rods, 3.1 dished pistons etc...

Didn't some of the X11's get a pretty healthy 2.8 in those years? something like 130-140 HP? or am i thinking of something else totally...

I started designing a 3100 carb intake manifold. It is only in the concept stage right now. I am going to run with FI but I started with finding and taking a lot of dimensions form my 99' 3100 blocks. My idea was to use 1" thick plates that could be milled to allow for the push rod clearances on both side. Take a look at my link. I published it on scribd.

Dave, Thanks for the offer, but being from Florida, I think shipping would be killer.
The X-11 had DID have the H.O. engine. In 81 it was rated at 140hp. '82-84 only had 130hp because of the exhaust. But there was two versions. The H.O. and the lo-po which bested at 115hp. There were also a few "levels" for the car line. The base model (only 1 known to exist with a H.O. engine, special order), the CL (comfort lux.) only available with the lo-po, the XS which could have either engine but mostly the lo-po (a sporty 'tation yes, but a poser compared with the X-11), and the X-11 which was a full blown, factory built, rally race car
